Buying a new smart TV
Re: Buying a new smart TV
We have a large enough living room so I reckon a 55"-65" will be a nice upgrade from 49". An 86" screen is just overkill for our needs (and triple the price), I don't watch that much TV.

I’ll repeat what I said before, if your room can take it then go for the 65” as the price is not that much more but you’ll get a more immersive view. While your at it, also consider going for a sound-bar, as the built in speakers tend to be a bit naff!!
Re: Buying a new smart TV
Yep, gonna pull the trigger on the Hisense 65" on 12.12, its cheap already but they usually knock a bit more off on these promo days. Don't think I can justify 50% more for an OLED (my eyes are not great anyway so prolly wont notice the difference). Have a Yamaha amp and surround speakers already rigged up to the current TV, so that'll work with the new one.
Just frustrating that electronic devices have such a short shelf life these days.

I'll second that. I didn't realise how bad the TV speakers were until I got a soundbar.

I had also been looking at Hisense purely based on price and some decent reviews. Pricewise, certainly some big differences with the options regards to display and "Refresh Rate" (which I'm really not too sure about) - All are 4K. For a 55", we're talking £249 to £1,200

Thanks for any and all suggestions/recommendations.

[EDIT] Speakers not an issue as I have a decent Soundbar.

This might help explain some aspects:pharvey wrote:I had also been looking at Hisense purely based on price and some decent reviews. Cheapest being a VA Display with a "Refresh Rate" of 60 Hz - Top of the range being an OLED Display with a "Refresh Rate" of 120 Hz. Display types include TV, VA, LED, OLED, QLED, ULED, ADS - "Refresh Rates" are 60 or 120 Hz..... Huge price differences, but what the hell are the advantages/disadvantages of the various displays? Obviously after a decent display, but I don't exactly have 20-20 vision, so not going to pay over the odds for something I don't need/can't see the difference in
!!

I’d suggest in the UK go to somewhere like Curry’s or whatever has a fairly decent range of TV’s and see if they have something that you like the look of and is within your budget. Reading reviews and recommendations is one thing, but using your eyes (and ears) might be your best bet!!pharvey wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 6:12 pmI had also been looking at Hisense purely based on price and some decent reviews. Re: Buying a new smart TV
It’s a bit like food/restaurant recommendations - what one person likes, another finds so-so, so of course listen to reviews but then go take a look. As you say with less than perfect 20-20, there’s no point in paying double price for something you can’t observe. I’ve been to Homepro in Hua Hin and look at their TV’s and can see that one TV seems to have a slightly sharper picture than another - that’ll do for me!!pharvey wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 11:29 pmFair comment DB and I will do so - just interested on advice,Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 9:09 pm I’d suggest in the UK go to somewhere like Curry’s or whatever has a fairly decent range of TV’s and see if they have something that you like the look of and is within your budget. Re: Buying a new smart TV
Good idea, have a look then chec internet, I got a good deal from amazon.

Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.
Re: Buying a new smart TV
Done all the research and concluded that we don't need a fully-fangled 120hz OLED which is triple the price (and has more things to go wrong!). We rarely used 4K and I can't tell the difference between that and FHD (certainly don't use 3D)!
I want something bigger than we have that will last at least five years so this fits the bill (haven't ordered yet) as it has a 3-year on-site warranty, all the ports I need, and an open OS.

As suggested, it is a good idea to go and view and compare a few in your local electronics shop (though the ones in Thailand push certain brands as the staff are on commission). Yes, there are big fancy brand-named screens that do have better picture quality but I can't justify the 5x price difference (I don't watch that much TV!)
We'll have a little peruse in HH over the weekend, but I reckon it'll be hard beating the one we've chosen.

Re: Buying a new smart TV
Hisense get some fairly good reviews in the UK at the price point your talking about - it would certainly be on my shortlist!!
Re: Buying a new smart TV
Big beast arrived today and wow, what a difference. Its like having a cinema in the living room! Sound isn't too hot but plugging the amp in certainly improves things - may get a soundbar for convenience though.

Re: Buying a new smart TV
Glad you’re happy with the TV - re soundbars, the one I have here doesn’t have a separate subwoofer whereas the one I have in the UK does and provides much better sound quality, although I suspect that’s partly due to the fact it cost double the price. If you get a chance to listen to some first and then maybe buy from Lazada?buksida wrote:Big beast arrived today and wow, what a difference. Its like having a cinema in the living room!
