I’ve only been back 5 days and I’ve already fallen out of love with the weather - it’s almost non-stop rain. Although I’m sure there have been similar spells in he past, it’s not what I was hoping for.

Likewise mate, been back a fortnight now and it hasn't stopped raining since. The weather was actually better in the UK so seriously reconsidering living here full-time now and planning to live elsewhere for at least 3-4 of these saturated months per year. Half-year wet seasons and major flooding is becoming the new normal - climate change in action.

Some of this years rainfall has to be due to what is called the Indian Ocean Dipole. No, not the dipole that you may connect to a 2 way radio!

It is far from considered by the Thai Met Dept., in fact I believe that if you were to ask them they would deny that it even exists!

What is the Indian Ocean Dipole?

Seasonal Forecast for October – December 2022
https://asmc.asean.org/asmc-seasonal-outlook/

Southwest Monsoon conditions are typically expected to transition gradually to the inter-monsoon period in late October and early November 2022. As the monsoon rainband moves southwards towards the Equator, the prevailing low-level winds over most parts of the ASEAN region are likely to be light and variable in direction. With the onset of the inter-monsoon, shower activities are expected to increase over most parts of the equatorial region.

For the October to December (OND) 2022 period, an increased chance of above-normal rainfall is predicted for much of the ASEAN region, apart from an increase in chance of below-normal rainfall over parts of the western Maritime Continent. La Niña conditions are predicted to continue at least until December 2022. The negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is expected to weaken towards the end of the year. Both La Niña and negative IOD events tend to bring wetter conditions to parts of the ASEAN region. Warmer-than-normal temperature is predicted for many parts of the ASEAN region, with the exceptions of below- to near-normal temperatures over much of the Mainland Southeast Asia as well as parts of the equatorial region.

Here’s the main road heading towards Cha am - I don’t know how much rain we’ve had today but I’m sure considerably more than what Pet recorded Image

The South West Monsoon for this year is pretty much history.

Although still in transition, it has basically swung around to the North East.

Well the rains are still falling - I woke this morning to find my pool full to overflowing so put the pump on drain. Since arriving back in Thailand on 2nd Oct, I must have drained in excess of 200mm of water.

It isn't history here, reckon I've pumped out at least 2-3 feet of excess water from our pond since returning in late Sept. It is still pumping out today and we've rarely had the chance to turn it off.

This is how much more rain we get (screenshot at current time) compared to you guys up in the desertified north of the province. Its been like this for three weeks solid and I've renamed the town 'Macondo'.

I did"nt say that it was going to stop raining! In fact where you are it may increase, but as per your screen shot, it is coming from the east!
Right now there is also a monsoon trough right across where you are as well, which is also part of the dying south west monsoon.

Well a whole day without rain yesterday (well at least for me) and now we have to pay for it.
I wish it would rain heavy and more likely get over it instead of this drizzly UK rain which goes on for ever.

You’re obviously more fortunate where you are as we’ve had very heavy rain just 20 kms away - at least 75mm in the past 24 hours.

Ok as we've had 65% more rain than average in first 7 days of October

AND its rained heavier since, then......

Serious Question

Where to go to escape the rain?

The whole of Thailand is out, I assume

Preferably somewhere with golf

Ideally not as far as Dubai!

All suggestions welcome

Ps I'm serious!
