ThaiMet reporting only 29mm today (24 hrs up to 07.00 today).

Thought it would be a bit more....

By my reckoning using their data we've had 217mm in May so far(Hua Hin)

That's basically double the whole monthly average(111mm) in the first 9 days, according to Weather and Climate website. Other sites data may differ.

All be informed that; by decree, the rainy season begins on Friday. (she does not mention which Friday)
...............................................................................................................
Rainy season to begin Friday, drought warning for mid-June

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... r-mid-june

Thailand will enter the rainy season on Friday, the weather agency said on Wednesday, but a drought is expected next month.

The Meteorological Department announced the start of the wet season on Friday and it will go through mid-October except in the southern region, where it will last three more months..

Department director-general Chomparee Chumpurat warned that a shortage of rainfall would be possible for one month from mid-June and it could spell drought in farmland outside the irrigation system.

The country would encounter heavy rain in August and September, especially in the upper part of the country, she added.

The department on Wednesday also warned that Tropical Cyclone Asani could cause downpours and flash floods in some areas over the next 24 hours before the storm makes landfall in central India.

The storm has triggered flooding in the southern region, with Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla among the provinces hit the hardest.

Thai weather site is already stating that we are under the influence of the southwest monsoon.

Sure enough, checking various articles from India they are saying the same thing. .... "starting May 15 for the Andaman and Nicobar islands...."

The synoptic charts show a weak westerly wind flow, far from being a Monsoon. The change is in transition, and far from established yet.

What annoys me with the Thai Met Dept is statements like this: "The southwest monsoon prevails across Thailand...................."

The Monsoon will not be a Monsoon until it gathers full strength across India, arriving early OR not!

This is some storm we're in at the moment. Lightning with instant thunder which shook the house somewhat. At least it never hit us. The last time cost me a fair bit repairing a lower roof.

Well, this current storm has shown me that there is a leak in the roof right were I extended my bedroom out in 2020. That sucks.

At 7 pm, Petchasem, in front of Market Village and down to the water dept. the road was flooded up to the undercarriage of the car. Nevertheless, the usual idiots were driving like it was dry and they owned the road.

To be fair, flooding of this kind a few years ago took a day or two to subside. In the last couple of years, although there is initial flooding, it's soon gone lending praise to the drainage work carried out, especially around Soi 112 and 102.
Try living around Pattaya where anything more than a drizzle causes flooding.

Prepare for rain and floods

https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/weather ... land-again

Thailand’s wet season is still alive and well. From tomorrow, May 27, until May 31 (Tuesday), expect heavy to very heavy rains in the country’s northeast, central, east, and southern regions. The current Monsoon in Thailand’s southwest is expected to get stronger.

As has been the case in Thailand for the past month, expect strong winds and high waves in Thailand’s Andaman Sea and Gulf. Waves in the Andaman are expected to be 2-3 metres high, and waves in the upper Gulf gulf are expected to be 2 metres high. During thundershowers, waves are expected to rise above 3 metres.

A warning from the Thai Meteorological Department that won’t be unfamiliar in the slightest to anyone who lives in the country is, be ready for accumulated rainfall that could cause flashfloods.

The department warns ships in the upper Gulf and the Andaman Sea to be careful, and avoid areas experiencing thundershowers. Earlier this week, a yacht capsized in stormy waters in Thailand’s southern province of Krabi. A fishing boat rescued the yacht’s 3 passengers, who had gotten onto a small dinghy.

Last week, Bangkok flooded in many areas after 10 hours of torrential rain. The most affected areas are Chatuchak, Lak Si, Don Mueang and Lat Phrao. In some places, the water level reached higher than 1 metre. The floods caused traffic jams, namely at Ratchayothin Intersection and Ratchadapisek – Lat Phrao Intersection.
