Oasis Bar Zone

There was a rumor that this area was going to be called Wonderland 2, but that is not the case. Oasis it shall be called. It is the new bar area off of Soi 94, behind the Irish Embassy, Cheers, and the others. I think there are supposed to be over 40 or so of these bars here when it is up and running full tilt.

Tonight was a “soft” opening for a few of these bars. The grand opening for all of them is slated for April 1st. I went there tonight and had a look around. I like this setup a lot more than Wonderland’s, which feels almost claustrophobic at times, with its narrow pathways, and bars so close together. Oasis is very linear, with wide footpaths, plenty of parking, and (for now)…free toilets!

If so I sincerely hope they've improved them, they're a disgrace!

Soon, as Thais are wont to do, there will be hundreds of bars like these, all in the same area, and in a year, with no tourists, most of them will be gone.

A bunch of bars at Oasis Zone are having their grand opening celebrations tomorrow night, April 5th, if anyone feels inclined to enjoy the festivities.

There is no Wonderland 2 or 3. There is Wonderland. Now there is Oasis Zone, which is the new cluster of bars behind Cheers, Irish Embassy, etc. and soon there will be Maldives, which will be built on a chunk of land near Rock Zone.

I believe this is the location of the soon-to-come Maldives Bar Zone. Nothing has been built as of yet. The area is really going to be saturated with little bars.

Right? Too bad there isn’t an abundance of customers to match this abundance of optimism in saturating the area with bars.

It's always the same, whether it's bars or restaurants, or beauty salons, or whatever. One shop opens and a 1/2 dozen others think it's a good idea to open the same kind of business within a 300-meter radius. Eventually, all but 1 or 2 go broke. They never learn. It's the curse of having a low IQ.
