I'm currently about 18 km from where the super bowl will be played. I'm not going, not even if I scored free tickets (I don't like crowds) (or people).

Basic tickets are being advertised from $3,500 - 6,000 each, parking $400 to 6,000 (not a typo) and these are lower than prices over the last few weeks since the game is getting closer. The seats, at this price, are nothing special up to nosebleed sections. Lower, and closer, to the field can be around 15,000, VIP sections 35,000+. Special seats go for 75,000 and there is at least one for sale at 180,000. The Los Angeles area is filled with events, sales, activities, etc, all based on the super bowl.

The NFL makes a sh*tload of money, the commissioner's salary and perk package is reported close to 128,000,000 so maybe for the right price they would locate one in the UK.

I guess what I'm getting at is there would be a huge outcry from US cities and businesses if it was sent overseas. Plus would the UK residents be willing to pay those prices? I have no clue what seats at comparable events in the UK go for.

^ Major sporting events are always silly money, but to me the Superbowl takes the biscuit - well, it's American after all! :D  :duck:

TV rights, advertising - Christ, this year they're even bitching about the price of chicken wings!!

I don't think any (single event) compares migrant. You must be looking forward to Sunday not enjoying crowds or people!! I truly do feel for you....

Best of luck - :thumb:

Yes chicken wings and avocados (for guacamole) are traditional super bowl foods, and the news has mentioned (too many times) that the prices this year are record high.

I'm just going up the road to my Son's house for the game, no traffic and people I can get along with!!

A couple other super bowl notes I've read in the lead up to the big game. How they are arrived at, and the exact accuracy, I don't know, but all seem reasonable.

- Commercials, this year, are 6.5 million US dollars for 30 seconds
- The half time performers are not paid. All expenses are but the superstars (I guess they are) are not.
- This year a fellow out of Texas placed a (legal) bet for the Bengals to win in the amount of 5 million USD, the largest wager so far.
- All the players get a high end car to drive around in while they are in town for the game
- Next to Thanksgiving people eat the most during super bowl Sunday. A billion chicken wings, 8 million pounds of guacamole and 14,500 tons of chips leading the way
- Including the playoff games the winning players make around $250,000 for the extra games on top of their salaries, losers ~ $185,000
- The winning team gets about 150 diamond rings to pass to players, coaches and others, total cost around $5,000,000
- The super bowl uses roman numerals since the season straddles 2 calendar years.
- Antacid sales increase by around 20% in the days around the game

Cincinnati's cinderella story ends. They'll be back next season in a big way.

Super Bowl LVI: Stafford, Kupp lead Rams over Bengals for NFL title

https://www.upi.com/Sports_News/NFL/202 ... 644801428/

Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Matthew Stafford threw a clutch touchdown toss to Cooper Kupp with 1:29 remaining to lead the Los Angeles Rams to a tight victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday in Inglewood, Calif.

The Rams trailed for the majority of the second half before the 1-yard toss gave them the 23-20 win. Kupp, who was named MVP, hauled in eight catches for 92 yards and two scores.

"I'm so proud of this team," Stafford told NBC. "So many guys on this team deserve this. So many guys gave their heart and soul to this team."

Stafford totaled 283 yards, three scores and two interceptions. The Rams defense sacked Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow seven times.

Rams coach Sean McVay, 36, became the youngest coach in NFL history to win a title with Sunday's victory.

Burrow, who appeared to sustain a knee injury in the second half, totaled 263 yards and a score in the loss. Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins totaled 100 yards and two scores on four catches.

"We just didn't finish it off," Bengals coach Zac Taylor told NBC. "I'm really proud of this special team. As a coach, you don't get many of these opportunities. I will never take this group for granted."

Stafford drew first blood with a 17-yard touchdown toss to Odell Beckham Jr. midway through he first quarter. Bengals kicker Evan McPherson answered with a 29-yard field goal at the end of the quarter.

Stafford later connected with Kupp for an 11-yard touchdown two minutes into the second quarter to give the Rams a 13-3 edge.

The Bengals responded when running back Joe Mixon completed a trick-play pass to Higgins for a 6-yard score.
Safety Jessie Bates intercepted Stafford in the end zone with 2:10 remaining in the second quarter, but the Bengals couldn't capitalize on the turnover. The Rams took a 13-10 lead into halftime.

The Bengals, who deferred the opening kickoff, capitalized on the first play of the third quarter. Burrow took the snap, dropped back, evaded several defenders and launched a 75-yard pass down the right flank for Higgins for that score.

Bengals cornerback Chidobe Awuzie intercepted Stafford on the first play of the Rams' resulting possession. The Bengals turned the turnover into points when McPherson made a 38-yard field goal about five minutes later.

McPherson's field goal pushed the Bengals' advantage to 20-13.

Rams kicker Matt Gay made a 41-yard attempt on the next drive to cut the Bengals edge to four points with 6:02 remaining.

Burrow appeared to sustain a right knee injury on the Bengals' first drive of the fourth quarter, but remained in the game. The Bengals offense struggled down the stretch and was forced to punt with 6:20 remaining.

Stafford then led the Rams on a 15-yard, 79-yard scoring drive. The Rams got the ball into the Bengals 10-yard line and the Bengals committed several costly penalties, which resulted in a spot at the 1-yard line to set up Stafford's short toss to Kupp.

The Rams edged the Bengals 313 to 305 in total yards and held just a one-minute edge in time of possession.

Von Miller and Aaron Donald totaled two sacks apiece in the win. Rams defenders Ernest Jones, A'Shawn Robinson and Leonard Floyd also logged sacks.

Beckham totaled two catches for 52 yards, including his first-half score, but sustained a knee injury and did not return.

I tried to watch it for a while, but I was seeing more pop concert than sport. I'm not sure if I was catching the half-time entertainment, but it wasn't really much sporting action. When I did see action it resembled the playground game of bulldog, with the person getting through the mob having to catch a ball.

It would be interesting to know how long the actual game was and how long it took from start to finish with all the razzmatazz!!

Discount all the glitz and it was a close and well fought game. Cincinnati had it until the last 2 minutes and LA put on a remarkable defensive display.

A game is 4 x 15 minute quarters. You're always going to get a show at the Super Bowl, as migrant mentioned above it generates millions. Watch regular season games next season if you want to see mostly football and little glitz.

Yes but from start of the first quarter to the end of the fourth took how long?

Probably about 4 1/2 hours including half time, I didn't look really as turned it off and on. The halftime show always takes up a lot of time at the Superbowl, probably close to an hour.

4 x 15 does not include when the clock stops which is frequently for incomplete passes, out of bounds, time outs, injuries etc. A 15 minute quarter can take double that easily.

That would do me in - I find it difficult enough for the near 2 hours of a football match, but each to their own.
