I'm sure, like the rest of us though, it has just been a heavy shower or two. We are not getting the deluge that the rest of the country is suffering. I've been watching the news footage, and some of it is very scary elsewhere. All we ever get is a couple of deep puddles that are gone within a couple of hours.

But how long did it stay like that? From what I've seen since I have lived here, floods are usually gone very quickly.

[Edit] BTW, I spent ages pressing that play button :banghead:

As with most of these storms that come from the east, they never seem to develop as predicted. Now that I've said that, these may be the exception.

Two tropical storms to hit from Monday

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... rom-monday

Tropical storms Lionrock and Kompasu are expected to hit Thailand between Monday and Wednesday, which may affect the Northeast and Central regions, according to the National Water Command Centre.

Surasee Kittimonthon, secretary-general of the Office of the National Water Resources, said the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) found the first round of a low-pressure area has the tendency to become a tropical storm because of the influence of high air pressure. The second round of a storm may be worse.

Mr Surasee, who is also deputy director of the National Water Command Centre, said the centre will closely monitor the situation as the storms might cause heavy showers in the Northeast and Central regions.

Sutat Weesakul, director of the Hydro-Informatics Institute, said the weather predictions of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and Regional Ocean Modelling System showed the first storm is in the South China Sea, while the second one is in the Pacific Ocean near the Philippines.

Although the storms will not hit Thailand directly, more rain is expected in the western and upper part of the South and lower Central regions, the upper Northeast and upper North. On the other hand, they would also help to replenish water in the Bhumibol and Sirikit dams.

The worst-hit provinces may be Ranong, Phangnga and Phuket, Mr Sutat added.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has warned 14 Central region provinces, the East and the South to brace for flash floods and landslides due to excess water released from dams until Sunday.

The 14 provinces are Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Chanthaburi, Trat, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

The disaster prevention department also warned about water overflow risks around the Phetchaburi River in Phetchaburi province, the Tapi River in Surat Thani, the Lamtaphoen and Phu Takhian dams in Kanchanaburi, the Huai Mahat Dam in Ratchaburi, the Huai Sai Ngam Dam in Prachuap Khiri Khan and the Khlong Ya and Khlong Haeng dams in Krabi.

Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is working with the water resource management subcommittee to push more water from the Chao Phraya River into the Gulf of Thailand as the flow rate of the water would be reduced because of inflows of seawater until Sunday.

The Royal Thai Naval Dockyard has also deployed 12 water-pushing boats.

Although I’m not in country at the moment, my wife tells me (and shows me photos) of some of the most persistent rain for many a year - perhaps the Colonel can provide the statistics that he keeps?

I think HHTel must have annexed Soi 94 as part of his garden, because I'm not seeing much rain. Agreed, the ground is wet most mornings when we wake, but only the briefest of showers at other times.

It hasn't stopped for months a few hours south of you guys. We've probably had about a week in total of dry days since June, certainly the wettest wet season for a few years. Approaching La Niña may have something to do with it.

Happy to oblige

September(2021)was quite a wet month!

We got 185mm as opposed to expected average of 120mm so +54%

As regards October, easily the wettest month of year in Hua Hin, typically we are due 246mm on average

In the first 7 days of October we've had 66mm(which I must say I find very surprising as I've hardly seen a drop!)

So purely an estimate, projecting that through would mean we get 292 for the month (+19%). But if it rains during the night then do we really care? As a golfer I'll take that!

In October 2020 we got almost double the average! Several days I recall it hammered down relentlessly from morning till night!

Ps allegedly the rainfall is measured somewhere near junction of Soi 6/Bofai but now I can't find where i saw that!?!? Definitely not at HHTel's house!

^^ If you believe this link it's in Soi 56:

https://www.weatherhq.co.uk/weather-station/hua-hin

There's a little map you can zoom in.

I use that soi most days. It's not obvious where that weather station is.

Don't forget this is a UK site. I've always understood the HH weather station to be on Petchkasem, going north on the right before Soi 51. It displays the current temperature and a board "Weather Information Centre'.

In fact, I'm now positive. You can see the weather tower in the grounds.

^^ Yes that's the met office and it's where the weather radar is based. There is also an aviation weather station at the airport. The soi 56 site is also mentioned on another website. However, both sites possibly use the same derived map coordinates (different maps) and there may be an error in those.

According to ThaiMet, Hua Hin got 20mm of rain yesterday! (that's 2.5 times daily average for October)

Er, when?! I never saw any(although I was up Cha am way most of afternoon but it was beautiful up there and no sign of rain on my return

Last night around 19.30 there was a fabulous storm brewing but I got no rain in the Soi 94 area

Anyone who lives in or close to HH get any rain?

I drove from Ratchaburi to Cha-Am last night, and drove through some of the heaviest rain I've ever known. Only wet roads from Cha-Am, South.
