AIS 500/500
AIS 500/500
Since switching to AIS for my home Internet a few years back, I've been like a pig in muck with the service - IMHO it has been excellent value for money, and the main advantage is, IT WORKS .
I was outside the house this morning doing something with my car, and I see a big shiny poster has appeared on my lamppost - AIS 500/500 for 599฿/month. I had to check what I was currently getting/paying. A quick speedtest put me at 240/30, and I'm paying somewhere between 800 and 900฿/month. So obviously my interest is aroused.
Further investigation tells me the up/down speeds can be toggled to give up to 1Gb either way.
I'll be honest, I am perfectly fine with what I've got, and I usually believe in the adage don't fix it if it's not broken. However, this sounds too good to be true. I've read it, my daughter-in-law (much cleverer than me) has read it, and we can't see the catch. Why would AIS want to give me double what I have, and lose income by it?
I see the package was launched in February, and I'm hoping somebody has actually invested in this package already and can tell me the shortfalls, if any.

Re: AIS 500/500
All of those touted speeds for various packages are internal only so it is unlikely you'll see much difference in international bandwidth (unless you spend a lot of time looking at Thai websites).
Our 3BB connection is supposed to be 1,000 Mbps download (which it gets close to internally) but runs at about a tenth of that for overseas servers (which is plenty for my needs).

Re: AIS 500/500
Oh yes, I accept that. When I did the above speedtest, it was much slower to Singapore and London. It's just the fact they claim to be offering more, but will charge less.
They did something similar before for a few months i.e. boosted the speed right up. It was nice while it lasted, but I had no intention paying for the extra when the promo ended. My fingers are attached to an old body and an old mind - I can't work any faster . If a movie takes 5 minutes to download, rather than 30 seconds, so what?

Re: AIS 500/500
Oh wow!!! I didn't realise it, but investigating further, my current package is 1Gb/500 (edit - see below). Time to find out where my other 760/470 has gone. I've never signed up for 1Gb, so it must have been an upgrade that I wasn't aware of.
.................moving on, my daughter-in-law has been speaking to AIS. It seems my contract runs September to September. I'm currently getting 500/200, and my package is being upgraded naturally next month to 1000/500 - a sort of loyalty bonus. So back to my gut feeling, I won't fix it if it isn't broke. I'll stay as I am.

Off topic but I read about this guy who boosted his internet speed yesterday.

Re: AIS 500/500
I'm looking for an internet provider next week. Is 1000/500 for 599 Baht a month a good benchmarch? I currently hotspot my laptop of my AIS data package, that costs 300 Bhat month. It occasionally runs out of bandwidth but normally fine for football ect.
Re: AIS 500/500
Sorry Robinhood, I've mislead you - 599 for 500/500. It's 799 for 1000/500.

I also hot-spot my laptop/smart TV off my AIS sim card.Robinhood wrote:I'm looking for an internet provider next week. Is 1000/500 for 599 Baht a month a good benchmarch? I have *unlimited * data (and all calls to all networks) for just over 2000 baht a year(175 Bt /month)
I'm guaranteed a DL speed of 8Mbps but get about 50 in most places including my room. But Netflix etc will comfortably run off 8Mbps
I've never had a steaming issue with 'proper' platforms like YouTube, Amazon or Netflix.
The only downsides are;
-remembering to turn hot-spot on on phone(versus home wi fi is permanently on)
-30 sec delay in connecting the external device (laptop/TV)
-it burns through your phone battery life, so a phone with a good battery life is recommended (or plug it in)
For me, presently, I just don't need a 'permanent' Internet service (when ive enquired it's min 1 year contract)
If I owned/long term rented a house I might see it differently
Plus value for money wise it's a great geal

Hi TheColonel, I just noticed you are getting your AIS for 199Bhat from AIS.
I'm paying AIS in Market Village 300 Bhat, and it's supposedly unlimited. They're telling me I've got the best deal, apparently not! Where or how do you get yours from?

Don't forget..... Its a one year SIM deal but that suits me fineRobinhood wrote:Hi TheColonel, I just noticed you are getting your AIS for 199Bhat from AIS.

This was discussed on another thread (which mobile phone? )
You cannot keep your current number, but you do get to choose what your new number is from about 50 numbers. Again this doesn't bother me
I'm a self confessed tight git, so I'll put up with a some tiny inconvenience (as mentioned last post) so that I pay about one third of wifi price plus ALL my calls are free. Plus of course I have Internet everywhere I go(provided there is a phone signal of course, never once been an issue to me)You don't get that with home WiFi
But as ever, you pays your money, you take your choice
Good luck with whatever you decide

Embarassed AIS offers redress for live-match outage
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... tch-outage
Embarrassed telecom operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) has apologised for the outage during its live-stream of the Liverpool-Manchester United match in Bangkok on Tuesday night, and is offering customers limit free services as compensation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, AIS said the signal outage of the live match broadcast on its over-the-top platform AIS Play was caused by the overwhelming number of viewers.
It apologised and announced an additional live-streaming channel for viewers, via ais.th/live.
In a second statement later in the day, AIS repeated its apology and offered temporary free services as compensation.
The offer involves one free day of content services, 10 gigabytes of free internet-based data transmission for one day, or 100 minutes of free voice calls, depending on the subscriber's service package.

Re: AIS 500/500
Those free services seem focused on telephone packages. Yes, Mrs BB has a phone package, but my 3 boxes are via an Internet package - I don't seem to benefit
