Why do the words Anutin and vaccine cock-up keep coming to the fore?

Covid blame game spreads like a virus in Thailand

When Thai Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with Pfizer company representatives in Bangkok in late 2020, the businessman-cum-politician declined to place a Covid-19 vaccine order because in his words the shot was not yet proven effective on “yellow-skinned people”, according to government sources familiar with the meeting.

Thailand has morphed from a global Covid-19 containment success story to a world-class basket case exemplifying the risks of laxity, myopia and possible corruption.

I don't know but I sincerely hope so, when you go for you 2nd jab can you find out and please let us know, as you will be going before my husband whose appointment is end of September
Will do, unless we find a reason to call in before and ask the question, but whenever, will post the answer!!

2.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses and US$5m have no strings attached, says US envoy to U.N.

Though it is not a race, the US commitment to Thailand makes it the country’s largest COVID-19 vaccine donor, excluding other aid provided.

Others countries helping Thailand with vaccine supplies are Japan, with over 1 million doses, China with 1 million doses, and the UK with 415,000 doses.

Today, Thomas-Greenfield also announced that the US will donate another US$5 million in aid, to help Thailand fight COVID-19. This is on top of the US$50 million dollars that will go to international and non-governmental organization partners to “provide emergency food assistance, life-saving protection, shelter, essential health care, water, sanitation and hygiene services to vulnerable people from Myanmar, including more than 700,000 refugees and internally displaced people.”

160 million baht windfall. I wonder what will happen to that!

So moderna offered to build a vaccine production facility in Thailand, but Anutin didn't even answer.

On a brighter note. I've just had a call from the BCCT confirming the registration of my wife and daughter. She was checking that we are all the same family and will email me with an appointment for all 3 of us as a group.

However they are so clueless that they went instead into a building that hasn't been the BBC HQ for around 13 years now.

Sorry, my mistake - it's only 8 years since the Beeb moved out, not 13. The basic point still stands, however.

US Pfizer vaccines issued to 13 dark-red zone provinces
The Public Health Ministry on Tuesday began distributing 645,000 doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine donated by the US government to those deemed vulnerable in 13 dark-red-zone provinces.

The vulnerable groups allocated shots of the mRNA-based vaccine are the elderly, people with seven underlying diseases, and pregnant women, said Chawetsan Namwat, director of emergencies, health hazards and diseases at the Department of Disease Control (DDC) at a press conference yesterday.

The 13 provinces are Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Narathiwat, Pathum Thani, Pattani, Ayutthaya, Yala, Songkhla, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon, he said.

"They will get the first shot of vaccine. The second shot of vaccine will be given three weeks later," Dr Chawetsan said.

None for Prachuap then - which was still "dark red" the last time I looked. Maybe our batch went to Anutin's pals in Buriram ... :duck:

My other half's niece, who works in a Bkk hospital, had her Pfizer booster this morning, having previously has 2 sinovac jabs.

Not quite sure I understand that, Buksi. BKK Post did report that BKK would get Pfizer and previously reported that health workers having had 2 Sinovac would get a 3rd Pfizer shot.

I assumed caller's comments referred to BBK hospital in Hua Hin - if not there was little point in making them as we know Pfizer is in Bangkok already. A pal of mine from HH went up there to get it this week.

Good god these anti vaxxers are a smart bunch. They are now referring to the Will Smith movie I Am Legend saying that the vaccine can turn you into a zombie prompting the movies writer to say "Oh. My. God. It's a movie. I made that up. It's. Not. Real.".
