Yes,

MS Edge is now chromium. It is essentially same as google chrome but with Microsoft touches. It is best browser to use if you use Windows 10

Does anyone have any idea why I cannot activate real-time protection in Windows Defender 10? I don't have any other anti-virus software on my PC.

Is the Windows 10 itself genuine and activated? It limits some functionality if you don't activate it.

It's a genuine licensed version.

Just checked that Windows 10 is properly activated - positive!! But cannot turn on real-time protection!!??

I get the message:

Your device is being protected.

Last threat scan: Not available
Last threat definition update: Not available
Last health scan: 2/24/2021

Virus & threat protection
The threat service has stopped. Restart it now.

When I press "Restart now", nothing happens

I've just installed a new laptop. I've been downloading from YTS for years without a problem. However, I've downloaded 2 movies at extremely fast speeds but now nothing will download showing 0 mbps and no connections. Have 3BB installed software to detect torrent downloads subsequently blocking the exercise? If that's the case, I suppose I need to get a VPN.

I've had that happen to me a few times over the years. In the beginning I used to visit Mr Don, who would connect to his Internet, and downloading started immediately. These days, I resolve it with a visit to my daughter's house. I use AIS, my daughter has True and I think (not sure) Mr Don had AIS.

Try using a different browser. Perhaps Opera, which has the advantage of having its own free VPN. My normal day-to-day browser is Firefox, but I use Opera when I need to download using a VPN. I also now have the (cheap) Firefox VPN, which I use for streaming with a VPN.
This is the way

Is it possible/feasible to upgrade a laptop?
Mine is very slow now. I'm asking in general not for in Hua Hin

Yes, but it depends on the laptop and it's age. For example, you can speed up start up and file i/o by replacing hdd by ssd.

You could also speed up the system generally by increasing memory, depending on how much you have and whether the laptop uses 64 or 32 bit architecture and/or operating system. This option may also be restricted by the age and specifications of the laptop.

Changing operating system may also help.

These are the obvious things. But depending on what you use the laptop for it may be preferable to buy new.

I'm on the last leg of setting up my new laptop. I don't have a torrent app installed. I've tried downloading uTorrent and bitTorrent. Both download, but when I get to the install, I'm told both programs are unsafe, and my machine won't let me continue. Does anybody have any suggestions please?

I’m sure I’ve encountered this before but been given the option “to install anyway” - I’m assuming you weren’t?

It downloads OK, but when I try to install, a couple of warnings pop up telling me of a threat. I've tried both clean and ignore, but get the same result.

That's not a threat warning, it's just an access denied due to not having the right permissions for file or folder (or zip file in this case).

I had the same with bitTorrent some time ago and somehow or other (maybe I was redirected, I really can't remember), I got onto qBittorrent and that downloaded and installed fine. I've been using it ever since successfully.

Maybe give it a go?
