R/C model shop, electronic components shop

Post by onarees »

Hello 2 all,

i left germany half a year ago to live in Thailand. My english is not the best, but i think it's good enough to talk and write a little bit

As a young boy i did R/C models as my hobby. Some stuff i brought with me to Thailand and I like to start again. Now I'm searching for shops where I can get R/C accessories, electronic components like resistors, transistors, FETs, MOSFETS, ond so on. And I'm searching in future for a lathe and a CNC-milling machine to build steam machines and model engines.

Does anybody know where I can get these things? Are there any shops in or near Hua Hin? Also online-shops are interesting.

I hope, someone can give me a little bit of information.

Very much doubt you'll get that in Hua Hin.

Bangkok:
The Ban Moh area is the best for discrete components. The general area is between Asadang road, Pahurat road, Tripetch road and Charoen Krung road. I recommend Chokchai Electronics on the corner of Asadang road and Pitra Pitak road as a one-stop shop. If they don't have it, usually no-one else does.

Electrical/ electronic accessories can be found around the Khlong Thom area, start at the Klong Thom Center and walk around. The general area is between Charoen Krung road, Worachak road and Luang road.

You should also find tool shops in that general area.

Plan at least two days to walk around, it is very crowded in the small sois and does get quite hot.

I have seen specialised R/C shops in Bangkok, but offhand can't remember exactly where. Will post again if I do.

I would advise getting a proper Bangkok map, and wholly recommend the one sold by thinknet.co.th as it comes on CD as well as paper, about 300 baht.

Hello VincentD,

thank You very much for the Information.

A person living not to far from our house thought, he saw some stuff in a shopping mall in hua hin on the second floor. Maybe he saw the R/C toys you can get nearly in every supermarket. When I go to Hua Hin next time, I will have a look.

If I find a shop, i will post it here.

R/C model shop, electronic components shop

There's a good model shop, with a helpful proprieter, opposite Pantip Plaza on New Petchaburi Road. Pantip Plaza is, of course, the plaza which specialises in everything IT, so there could be some electronic componentry somewhere in there, too.

Hi Andre

You can get those R/C toys also at Khlong Thom, but I think that is not what you are looking for.

Hi Layman

So that R/C model shop is still there? Wow! I have not walked that area for a long time, last time I passed that shop Panthip Plaza was only selling amulets...

If I remember correct there may be one opposite the Police Aviation division. There are some avid hobbyists there, usually by first light on Saturdays and Sundays they're flying their planes. They also do special shows on open days - usually important public holidays. Will see if I can pass by sometime this week and check it out.

Hi VincentD and layman,

thank You for Your information about the R/C model shops in Bangkok. I think, there are many shops in Bangkok and I found some online shops in internet too. But it's a long way to Bangkok to get some stuff only for a few Baht :)

But today I found an electronic shop in Pranburi (next city in the south behind Hua Hin and 10km away from where I live) :D . I only bought some capacitors. Now I make a list of things I need for my first electronic project and let's see, what this shop can deliver to me.

For everyone who is interested in: You can find the shop when you turn left by the traffic lights in the centre of pranburi (direction Paknampran). I think 300m on the left side you see a big sign on the storefront with a satelite antenna on it. I don't know the name of the shop, because it's written in Thai language.

Maybe I will have the same luck with a R/C model shop.

Cheers

Sorry to bring up an old topic. I was looking for an electronic components shop. Needed some tools and relays. I followed the directions for the one in Pranburi but I am not sure if that was the correct one. I did however find most of the stuff I needed. Can somebody confirm if it is the building with a black mesh antenna and a big Sharp billboard in front of the traffic post at the Pak Nam Pran intersection?

And are there any new ones that are more specialised?

Nearest model shop I have found is in Phetchaburi, on right hand side into town from Phetchat Hospital, maybe 150 mtrs. Small and not a lot of stock but managed to buy nitro gas for my engines without trip to Bangkok.

You could pick up a copy of the mag "RC Flying" which is mainly in Thai but contains adverts for most of the major model shops with either www. adresses or Thai and English phone numbers.

Google, Phetchaburi Model flying club, I believe they use the army camp just north of Hua Hin. To ask questions requires registration on the forum, which is mostly in Thai, google translate running seems to handle it well.

I often see guys flying R/C at the Black Mountain reservoir area, say from 17:00 onwards and I am sure if you were to ask them they would point you in the right direction.
Also Ratchaburi and Petchaburi have very active R/C communities and I have spend many a relaxing hour or so watching these guys doing some amazing stuff.

Thanks Dozer. Just for the record, I was looking for passive and active electronic components for some of my DIY projects. I used to make my own guitar pedals and stuff and want to start with it again. But you're right about the R/C communities, they're a good source to find the right suppliers of components :D

Hi all, the big market on canal rd has a couple of small stands selling electronic components, and amps and equelizers etc, i also go to the markets that set up at big events. I bougt a soldering iron there and some wire brushes, really cheap about 50 baht each. Also the 20 baht shop that sets up at events has stuff like zip ties and tools, like T braces and electrical screw drivers. Hope that helps somewhat

I find many shops sell RC toys but don't have spare parts. And we all know that when you crash you need parts.
I fly helicopters and race nitro buggies. Is there anywhere to race RC vehicles?
I live at Black Mountain and have never seen anyone flying here? I must look closer and more often?
In BKK there are a few shops that deal in RC around Sea Con mall. They have an asphalt track as well.

There's a Thai down the road who's built his own RC planes, and he flies them from sunrise to sunset...lol

Where did you buy your helicopter? I've heard the RC toys here are crap and rarely last more than a day or two?

By coincidence I saw a helicopter being buzzed about on a large piece of "prepared" land a couple of kms up soi 112 the other day.
I also knew a chap on Samui 7 years ago who had one.
This is the way
