Some of what Vincents saying has the ring of truth to it, Chinese folk are sometimes viewed with a baleful eye by some thai folk, and I'm talking thai-chinese as well as chinese.

not being paranoid. just cautious.

Post by vincent chang »

That is the first time someone has even moderately agreed with any of my viewpoints. If you could see some of the responses to some of my posts, you would get paranoid as well. I have tried to post my 30 meaningful posts instead of just one word replies , but some people have been downright hostile if their opinion is not the same as mine. This forum keeps complaining about the lack of contributors, but if a new guy comes on, he gets the hell beat out of him. so no wonder there are so many lurkers and one word contributors to this forum. they get scared off. I think it is the same treatment the world over for any group, be it a ball club, a corporation, or team sport. the new guy gets singled out, bullied, picked on by the rest of the team. Then after a while, he might become tolerated, then accepted. Part of the weeding out process I guess.

I think when most people join a new team/group/company, they start off calmly and attempt to fit it, rather than deliberately trying to be confrontational and acting the big-I-am.

I think you went about it the opposite way Vinny.
Welcome anyway you fruit bat.

Maybe it would be better if we had to make 30 meaningful posts in night crawlers before being let into the main forum.
:?
Just a suggestion.

It would assist some people and spare others some frustration.

It does help if the new guy doesn't come in with a chip on his shoulder the size of a baseball bat & a confrontational attitude. You try a search, Vincent. I would be interested if you could find a newbie with a nice, cheerful, non-confrontational attitude that HHAD members had treated with hostility. I personally can't think of one. I could be wrong, but I really can't.

new guy treatment.

Post by vincent chang »

When I first got on. I was asking about the death of an aquaintance of an aquaintance. Apparently I ruffled a lot of feathers as this was apparently a taboo subject and apparently there were some threats made to the staff to censure me. I was barred from sending or receiving any pms which kind of pissed me off and therefore got that big chip on my shoulder. I have since learned the rules and mores of what is acceptable behaviour for this forum so now everyone is soo friendly. I can now go to the night crawlers section and be a perv there. But I like the regular forum as well.

You have been warned about this Vincent. You are breaking T&C's by discussing moderation issues on the forum. I have referred the matter to admin, &, as you were on your very last warning, I'm pretty sure of the outcome.

You are also misleading the members of this forum. You were banned from making pm's, because you were making harrassing & unsolicited pm's to members of this forum - against T&C's. Access to nc's is a privilege, not a right, you had not earned that privilege. As for threats made to HHAD which you imply we caved to, that is a load of hogwash, as you very well know.

You have received far better treatment by Admin & members of HHAD than I personally think you deserve. You have brought every bit of trouble on by your own attitudes, and STILL you flaunt the rules!

VC, you're obviously not the sharpest tool in the box as you have repeatedly broken our terms and conditions by talking about moderation issues and forum policy on the public board. You have also perused your investigative line of questioning which instigated the initial PM block therefore I have no choice but to ban you permanently from this forum.

Good Bye.

What is Thai?

Post by long-in-thailand »

When talking of Sino-Thai or Chinese-Thai or Chinese or Thai I have often seen that those who discriminate against 'Chinese' are basically old-established Chinese families. One of Thaksin's problems was that he was not Old Chinese but New Chinese and did not, therefore, fit in with the establishment. I have started referring to my partner as 'aborigine' - coming from Isan she was certainly one of the first colonisers of this land. The Thai came much more recently (from Yunnan in China!) and the Chinese even more recently.
