Some foreigners to be allowed in
One thousand foreign visitors are expected to be allowed entry to Thailand per day and the standard 14-day Covid-19 quarantine rule will be waived, according to an implementation plan for "travel bubbles" to be submitted for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA)'s approval on Wednesday.

These visitors, who in the beginning will be mostly business people and patients seeking medical treatment in Thailand, must come as part of bilateral cooperation on tourism between Thailand and selected countries which have managed to contain the coronavirus, Traisuree Taisaranakul, deputy government spokeswoman, said on Sunday.

General foreign tourists will later be allowed to visit Thailand if the tourism promotion programme proves successful in terms of the transmission control, she said.

Covid-19 screening tests will be required both before the visitors leave their countries and upon arriving in Thailand, she said.

This, however, doesn't mean the visitors will be able to travel freely while in Thailand as they will still be prohibited from visiting certain parts of the country and will be tracked via a smart phone application, she said.

Final details of the programme are being discussed by the Tourism and Sports Ministry, Public Health Ministry, Interior Ministry and Foreign Ministry.

The CCSA had on Friday agreed in principle on the travel bubbles proposal despite objections raised by security authorities.

Zero new cases today. 3 weeks since a local infection.

I noticed this morning that several bars appear to be open. They may be registered restaurants but are certainly not serving food but customers are sat at the bar with drinks.

Maybe just trying it on!

Coronavirus: Beijing Spike Continues With 36 New Cases

"Beijing has recorded 36 new locally-transmitted coronavirus cases, amid fears of a second wave in the Chinese capital.

Another 36 cases were also recorded on Saturday. The city had previously seen no new cases in more than 50 days.

The country's Vice Premier Sun Chunlan called on officials to take "decisive measures", warning that the risk of further spread remained high.

The outbreak has been linked to the city's largest wholesale market.

The general manager of the market has been dismissed, along with other local officials.

Three other provinces - Liaoning, Hebei and Sichuan - have also reported confirmed or suspected cases connected to Beijing.

Local media reports say the virus was discovered on chopping boards used for imported salmon at the market, prompting major supermarkets in Beijing to pull the fish from their shelves."

This could actually tell us who is pulling the strings. If this spike continues, will China still be a travel bubble country?

Well, it was a surprise to learn that one died in April in my postcode. I'm wondering now if it was someone I knew?
Wow, 16 people have died in the postcode I call home in the UK (and where my parents still live) - and 21 in the adjacent postcode, which is the one I grew up in. Another 26 in the postcode about a mile away where my brother lives.

11 in our postcode and considering a population of 14-15 K, seems high. A couple of comments on that site however call into doubt the accuracy of those figures: -

"To protect confidentiality, a small number of deaths have been reallocated between neighbouring areas."

"Figures exclude death of non-residents and are based on May 2020 boundaries."

I hope this doesn't come back to bite Boris or the UK on the @rse......

Stricter lock-down rules remain in Wales, Scotland & NI.

News of possible "Second Waves/Spikes" in both China and the US don't help alleviate concerns.

Long Queues as Shops Reopen in England After Lock-down

"Pent-up demand has prompted queues at some shops as rules are relaxed in England after a three month lockdown.

Long queues were reported outside Primark shops in London and Birmingham ahead of their 8am opening time.

The chain, which like other clothing shops has been closed since 23 March, does not offer online shopping meaning customers can only buy in the store.

All shops in England are allowed to open, although retailers have had to introduce strict safety measures.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged people to "shop with confidence".

He said he was "very optimistic" about stores reopening - although acknowledged that retailers did not know whether there will be a "huge wave of customers" or a "trickle".

"Local media reports say the virus was discovered on chopping boards used for imported salmon at the market, prompting major supermarkets in Beijing to pull the fish from their shelves."

Is this China being China again and trying to divert blame to wherever the Salmon came from? :banghead: , rather than anyone really knowing what other products the chopping boards were used for, or how often they are cleaned. :banghead:

This really has shades of when the whole thing started and they almost jailed the doctor who rang the alarm. It seems like there is a built in switch in these people to immediately divert responsibility elsewhere. I guess that's what living in a police state does to a person.

By the way, the deceased doctor's new son was born just this past week, and he'll never see or know his Dad.
