That isn't the way they said it on Surf 102 earlier, they said 5 students returning from Malaysia. I guess we need to wait for the daily brief.
You were right HHTel. Yes, Surf 102 had it right, but via State Quarantine, which to me is re-assuring.

It's a bit misleading when internationally, the numbers are not split. On the global scene it would look like a spike when in fact it's a 'net zero' of which there's been several occasions.

US AMBASSADOR QUESTIONS EMERGENCY DECREE EXTENSION
he newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Thailand on Wednesday queried the government on its decision to extend the Emergency Decree with a stated aim of combating the coronavirus outbreak.

Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam said ambassador Michael George DeSombre raised the questions about the decree extension during his visit to Government House. Wissanu described the inquiries as the ambassador’s personal interest unrelated to politics.

“The ambassador asked the question because of his curiosity,” Wissanu said. “He has no concern over it. We also discussed a lot of issues including the rehabilitation of Thai Airways.”

PRAYUT ACCUSED OF FAVORING HIS CRONIES FOR 1T BAHT LOAN
The opposition accused the government of writing a blank check for its cronies in a 1 trillion baht loan bill to fund coronavirus relief schemes, which began on Wednesday.

On the first day of Parliament’s reopening, Pheu Thai leader Sompong Amornvivat said the opposition is not against the loan, but scrutiny is necessary to ensure that the money is spent efficiently. Sompong said he learned that some of the funds had been allocated to different ministries before the bill was pushed into the parliament.

“After listening to the government’s rationale behind the bill, I think it doesn’t meet the problems. It doesn’t see the big picture,” Sompong said. “It allows the money to be used for political gain. Money can be allocated to MPs similar to a blank check.”

He continued, “The schemes must answer to the COVID-19 crisis and not to be spent extravagantly.”

Sompong also slammed the government for its failure in managing the coronavirus crisis. He pointed to the shortage of surgical masks and PPEs for healthcare professionals, the delay in government’s relief measures, and its reluctance to ease lockdown measures.

“Although the country has been praised for its disease control efforts, it fails in terms of alleviating and recovering the economy,” Sompong said. “The current fatalities from the COVID-19 and the number of people who committed suicide from economic fallout are now almost the same.”

11 new cases in the last 24 hours. The first time it's been in double digits for a while. However, all 11 were from state quarantine. Adds more weight to the extended ban on commercial flights into Thailand.

Activist says CCSA speaker’s defense of the SOE is problematic
Srisuwan Janya, secretary of the Association to Protect the Constitution, said on Wednesday that Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin’s justification for the extension of the State of Emergency (SOE) is problematic.

Dr Taweesin, a spokesperson for the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), said on Tuesday that the SOE allowed the integration of more than 40 laws between different ministries.

However, Srisuwan said that the extension of the SOE aims to control the people rather than control the spread of COVID-19.

“If we stop using the [SOE], Thailand has the Disease Control Act and other laws that are able to be used along with the [Act],” Srisuwan added.

He continued to claim that the SOE was being abused by government officials.

Very difficult for anyone to disagree with that statement. I doubt even the government could not reasonably argue against that.

Isn't control of the people, the aim of most laws?

Have you got any evidenciary proof that the figures are wrong or are you just voicing an opinion.

As for road deaths and suicides, they have always been a part and parcel of life wherever you live whereas Covid is a new addition to the worldwide death toll.

Coronavirus Deaths in US Top 100,000

"The US has passed 100,000 deaths in the Coronavirus outbreak in less than four months.

It has seen more fatalities than any other country, while its 1.69 million confirmed infections account for about 30% of the worldwide total.

The first US infection was reported in Washington state on 21 January.

Globally there have been 5.6 million people recorded as infected and 354,983 deaths since the virus emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan late last year.

The US death toll stands at 100,276, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland, which has been tracking the pandemic.

It means that around as many Americans have died from Covid-19 than from the Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan wars combined.

But on a per capita basis the US ranks ninth in its mortality rate behind the likes of Belgium, the United Kingdom, France and Italy, according to the university."

Complete end to lockdown on July 1

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/ge ... -on-july-1

State of emergency likely to end June 30

The government has set July 1 for the lift of all business and activity lockdowns ordered earlier to cope with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), said the National Security Council chief.

These include interprovincial and international travel, as well as the end of emergency decree and curfew.

NSC secretary-general Gen Somsak Rungsita said on Thursday that the lift of restrictions would be a complete reopening of the country. Officials would next month prepare measures for the reopening.

"Authorities will have serious discussions because after the emergency decree ends, other laws will be used instead," he said.

"People's cooperation is important. This concerns the use of face masks, social distancing, hand wash and limited activities. As long as the disease is spreading worldwide, we will have to fight against it for a while."

Gen Somsak said the executive decree on public administration in emergency situations would end in June and the ban on international travel would continue until then.

The full reopening will come after the third phase of the relaxation to take place in June.

The government's Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will on Friday finalise details on what businesses could resume and on what conditions under the third phase of relaxation in June.

On Wednesday, his committee on business easing did not reach a conclusion on high-risk activities that were suspended and seriously affected the economy, he said.

For next month, Gen Somsak said that curfew hours would be further shortened and more restrictions on inter-provincial travel would be lifted under the third phase.

CCSA spokesman Dr Taweesil Visanuyothin on Thursday said more activities at malls would resume and athletes' practicing grounds would reopen.

Operators and customers would be required to use Thai Chana mobile application for checking in and out of premises since the businesses allowed to reopen in this stage are medium- to high-risk ones.

Prime Minister's Office Minister Tewan Liptapallop said movie theatres would not reopen because operators said there was no new movie during this time.

"It is not because we oppose the reopening, but operators say there are no new films to screen at the moment," he said.

He also said the government was considering financial aid for temples where all activities stopped including donations from the public.

I didn't see any mention of commercial flight restrictions and quarantines.
