Health food in Hua Hin

This may be too much to ask for in Hua Hin, but does anyone know of any stores that sell health food, supplements, etc., like protein powders, vitamins? Worth giving a shot since everyone seems so knowledgeable about the place. I am an athlete and I need to know if I have to bring supplements with me. The jugs are pretty large though, and the last thing I want is customs confiscating my pills and potions (all legal of course)!

No there is not anywhere in Hua Hin. I am using a rep who I can call after selecting what I need from the international web site.

They may not deal with your exact requirement but it is protein powders and vitamin supplements that I get. The vitamins can be obtained from pharmacies if you know which one to go to but the protein powders have to be sent to me by courier.

on a side note, how are the pharmacies with respect to prescription drugs from North America? Do they carry authentic Viagra, Cialis, etc., and are the prices similar? Are doctor's prescriptions required? Thanks for any info...

Why don't you just ask the pharmacies? I did and bought a blister of 4 x 100 mg Viagra for 1800 Baht, as if it were Advil.

Iceman, in Hua Hin there are two stores, Boots and Watsonâ€™s who both stock pretty much the sort of high street drugs, supplements, vitamins etc. that you would find at home. Obviously they donâ€™t have anything too specialist, but they do have the more common stuff. Their prices, whilst not cheap by Thai standards, are lower than Europe for most things.

thanks for all of the info. I will definitely check with the pharmacies there, but honestly, for prescription drugs such as viagra, don't you need a doctor's prescription, Thai or otherwise, to purchase? Sorry for all the questions, but i just want to know what i'm up against in Hua Hin...

and by the way, 1800 baht for 4 viagra is quite steep...$13 USD each? they are about $10 each in the West...

Iceman, you will find that in most parts of Asia, in smaller pharmacies they will sell you anything as long as you have a trade name that they recognize, and the cash to pay for it.

I have bought Vit V in many places in Thailand and found non to be of the standard as what I get in the U.S. It was 500 Baht per tab which is about what I pay at an HMO in the U.S.A. However, the U.S.A. stuff is stronger with less side effects. I'm nost sure it the Thai stuff is imported form India or what but it feels more like speed and Vit V as I know it. I always get hold of a supply of 100's to be cut in half so my cost is about half of Thailand. I trust Watsons and Boots etc but anything more that Paramecatol or simple OTC etc OK but for Vit V etc I'm far more careful. I can tell you that the stuff the shown across from Nana Plaza for 500 Bath per 100mg tab is the Junk from India! I knoiwq drunks who take 200 mg........ Even if I've a bit of a snoot ful 50mg of the U.S.A. stuff works just fine!

FutureResident, Iâ€™ve found that continental strength lager works fine for me; about five liters spread over an evening should do the trick.
