Thanks so much, Burger, I really appreciate it. Do you want me to choose the 2 dogs (any preferences) or do you want to visit & choose yourself?
Migrant, sorry, still haven't made it into town for pick up. Had another parvo outbreak; 2 pups dead, 2 in the vet on IV and 4 more at risk, so I have to watch them closely for symptoms. Plus I still don't have a worker, so am at the center for long hours & my son's on school holidays.... Aaarggh! My days are going to the dogs literally! Hope to make it in tomorrow, but as I have over 100 anti-parasite shots to give, a dog to take for neutering & my normal work, it might be Friday. I am so grateful, I'll pm you when I've been.

Hello Dawn,
We have not heard from you for some time re your fund raising.
What is the latest. Have things improved?
I am particularly interested in the Credit Card facility for accepting money via the internet.
I feel that there are many people around the world who could help with small amounts.

Sorry about no updates, all. Had a bit of a rotten time & emotionally hit a low (I know you warned me about that, Pete), so really couldn't muster the energy to post or email, so I've got a huge backlog that needs sorting!
I was, funnily enough, just coming on to post an update now. OK, it has been a really difficult time. Financially things are slightly better & money & food has been coming in, enough to keep us going for the moment, although I do need to sort out something more consistent & will be contacting Mark from Sunrise again re that. Credit card payments will also be sorted, but for both things I need to get my printer (which has packed up) fixed. I will call someone in in the next couple of days & get it sorted.
The reason things have been so tough was mainly due to the shortage of workers & volunteers. I was spending all my time in the center, doing what I pay the workers for. We eventually got someone about 10 days ago (still not sure about her, but we'll see). Then I got an outbreak of parvo virus in my home. 5 pups contracted it over 10 days, requiring nursing, subcutaneous or IV fluids, quarantine from the others. All 5 died, one after the other. I still have no idea how it happened. The first pup died on the 1st anniversary of my BF's death, the last 1 day after the first anniversary of his cremation. With all of that going on, I wasn't doing very well emotionally.
Anyway, now we're clear (touch wood!) & I'm making a very strong effort to get back to normal. Promise! Migrant, I did get the money. Thank you so much. Burger, I'll get started on the sponsorship certificates, thank you again & anyone I owe a pm to, I'll get onto ASAP. Sorry about the silence to everyone interested; promise to try harder.

I'm sorry to hear that Jackie. I know how devastating it is to lose an old friend.
Just to let anyone interested know that work has started on the construction of the neutering clinic. Having spoken to Dogchance, it should just take a matter of a few weeks to build & we plan to start bringing dogs in as soon as we can. Jockey, will be in touch with you, re the clinic, soon.
Just to go back over the "why do you keep dogs?" questions, with a new example: On Monday, a volunteer & I spent a few hours on Lakeview Golf Course. The staff, BTW, were wonderful, taking us around in a golf cart, free of charge until we found the particular dog that had been reported. Anyway, we found her. She had a wire snare embedded in her foot. We had to sedate her & then took her out. We cajoled the staff member who had helped us to let us bring her back (understandably, golf courses don't want dogs back once we've removed them!). Initially, she didn't want to, but when I let her know we'd neuter the dog & vaccinate her, she relented.
We got to the vets, got the snare cut off & talked to him about neutering. He thought the dog might already be pregnant. Most vets here will not abort foetuses, then we thought the slight swelling might be pyometra (womb infection which can kill). Further investigation proved she also has VG, which is highly contagious & needs 6-8 weeks of chemotherapy.
So, from a simple dog with a snare, treat wound, neuter, vaccinate & release, we now have: snare, treat wound, possible pregnancy (if yes, caesarian so pups don't contract VG on their faces & no chemo until pups are weaned & then 6-8 weeks of chemo) or pyometra (operation), recovery & chemo. Either way, it'll be months before that dog can go anywhere, by which time, there will be no territory. We just got ourselves another dog. I'm afraid this is how it happens. Many times, our best intentions are foxed by fate.
Either way, I'm really glad we took her in. There were 3 ways that dog could have suffered & died horribly & we're able to make sure none of that happens to her (or her pups if she is pregnant). Good luck for her that she was reported & we managed to locate & catch her. Unfortunately, for us, what should have been a small bill just increased hugely...

From the Pattaya City News Friday 6th April.
Stray Dogs to be rounded up and shipped out of Chonburi Province.
At Pattaya City Hall, Khun Wirawat, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya called an emergency meeting of the Public Health Department to discuss the increasing problem of stray dogs that roam the streets of Pattaya. The Deputy Mayor mentioned that a budget has now been allocated to ensure that these dogs are rounded up and transported to a secure compound in Satgeow Province in the North-East of Thailand. A new by-law has now been introduced where Pet dogs are now not allowed to be let loose in public land. Pet Owners will now face fines of up to 5,000 Baht if caught. This is good news for Tourists, some of which have experienced these stray animals first-hand, sustaining dog bites which require hospitalization.

Thanks for that, Dougal, Very interesting. Methinks the people of Isaan & crocodile farms will be doing very well for food soon.
I wonder what their solution will be, to keep removing all the dogs as they keep breeding?
The 5,000 bt fine won't make any difference, people will just deny that the dogs belong to them.
I give up.

Dawn, I was just reading somewhere a couple of days ago that the promoters of the "Dog Show" at Impact Arena in Bangkok, donated
380k Baht to the Hua Hin municipality last December, for the purpose of building a "dog shelter". Is that correct, and is that going to help you at all?

A friend of mine here in the UK has just purchased a shiney new Cocker Spaniel. He spent 8 months looking for the one with the right markings, and therefore spent ?500 on his chosen aquisition. The puppy has about 20 formal names but he called him Dylan. There was no expence spared on tools to make the little fella feel at home. These include, ?69.99 for a steel cage to transport him to the park (200 yds away) ?20.00 for a special doggie bean bag! about ?100 on toys and vitamins, so he wont get bored, and enough books about rearing a Cocker to fill a mobile library. Add to that the Vet insurance plan of ?45.00 a month in case his feet get wet!!
Can't see many Thais shelling out that, eh Dawn.....
