I took my son to the Aloha Run at Pak Nam Pran earlier this morning. When the 3.5K runners lined up (at least 100 of them), they were each given a plastic bag, and asked to fill it with rubbish on their way around the course, which most people did. So a big well done to those people.

Then it got me thinking - a great initiative, but:
  • How dirty must Pak Nam Pran be if 100 people walking the same route can each fill a carrier bag in just 3.5Km?
  • What a kop out by the organisers. If I were organising an event, I would like to think I'd clean it beforehand.
I then looked down at my feet, where I was sitting. The paving stones were patterned with holes built in. Each hole was full of rubbish (mainly cigarette butts and bottle tops). I wasn't equipped to do anything about it, but could have easily filled a bag within a 4' radius of where I was sitting. Such a shame - they've spent millions tarting up the front at Pak Nam Pran, and it has been totally abused,

Oh, one more thing, the 3.5K runners came through first. When the 10 and 21K runners came through, they were taking drinks from the drinks station, and then throwing the empty plastic cups down, rather than using the plentiful bins along the course, I hope the organiser is made to clean up before they leave.
