Next up. Good luck to all! :thumb:

I'll be gone for this one, and for the British GP, and undoubtedly lose position. :( I'll post an update summary when I get back. Anyone want to post results and charts while I'm gone please do.

I'm still going to try to make picks, but probably from a cell phone so no idea if it will work. I'm just not going to have any time for research between practices and qualifying. :D

Daniel Ricciardo at centre of post-race controversy at French GP

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/f1-french-g ... 38311.html

Daniel Ricciardo has been hit with a 10-second penalty following the French Grand Prix, relegating him from seventh to 11th.

British teenager Lando Norris, battling a host of mechanical issues following a hydraulic failure, fell from seventh to 10th on the final lap after losing out in his duel with Ricciardo.

Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Raikkonen and Ricciardo's Renault teammate Nico Hulkenberg then made their way past the stricken novice.

Ricciardo however, was later adjudged to have driven Norris off the road.

The Australian was also punished for an off-track pass on Raikkonen during an action-packed last lap, ultimately demoting him to 11th.

Ricchardo later said it was disappointing to drop outside the points with a post-race penalty, especially at his team's home race.
"The last lap was a lot of fun, we had a fight and I enjoyed it. I'd rather give it a go than not try at all, and I'm sure the French fans and the people at home liked watching," he said.

"It's a shame to be penalised for it, but we'll aim to move on from that as quickly as possible.

“In terms of the race, I feel like I missed out a little bit at the start, especially after a really good launch off the line.
“I braked too early for turn one and that was too conservative looking back. That made the rest of the race hard work, but we kept it clean and smooth from there.

"There are still a lot of positives to take and we'll be looking for an immediate response in Austria."

Ricciardo is yet to finish on the podium this season with his best result sixth place in the Canadian Grand Prix.
He shares in equal ninth place with teammate Hulkenberg with both drivers on 16 points after eight races.
Leader Lewis Hamilton is on 187 points after his win in France.

'Not our fault': Hamilton fingers Bernie over 'boring' F1 races

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/formula-one ... 44441.html

Lewis Hamilton says boring Formula 1 races are not the drivers' fault and instead the blame lies at the rulemakers for a "constant cycle" of making bad decisions.

Hamilton dominated Sunday's French Grand Prix, winning by 18 seconds after a straightforward race with little action to earn his sixth victory in eight races maintained Mercedes' 100% record at the start of the season.

He said he understood why races were being perceived as "boring" but urged people not to "point the finger at the drivers".
"We don't write the rules," he said. "We have nothing to do with the money shift [between the teams] and all that stuff.
"You should put the pressure on the people that are at the head, that should be doing the job.

"I think they are trying to. But for many, many years they've made bad decisions."
Asked if he had ever considered "showboating" by allowing rivals ahead of him to spice up the action, Hamilton said that he "can't win" however he achieves success.

He said he had really enjoyed his battle in Canada after hounding Sebastian Vettel throughout the grand prix, despite only winning because of his rival's five-second penalty.

Hamilton added: "Those are the races that generally people enjoy most. These ones [the French GP] are not the ones people enjoy most.
"I think it's important for people to realise it's not the drivers' fault.
"This is a constant cycle of F1 for years and years and years, even before I got to F1.

"It's because the way Bernie [Ecclestone, ex-F1 boss] had it set up, the decisions they were making back then.
"It's still the same and until that [rulemaking] structure changes it will continue to be the same in my opinion.
"That's not my job to do that. My job's to come here and do the best I can as a driver."

Though Hamilton will not do anything artificially enhance the spectacle on-track, he said he is hoping to make a difference away from races.

The five-time world champion joined Renault's Nico Hulkenberg and Grand Prix Drivers Association head Alex Wurz in attending a crucial FIA summit over F1's 2021 rules in Paris last week.

"Do I have confidence it's going to shift massively? I have faith it's going to get better," he said.
"To the point where I went to Paris last week to get involved.

"I was in that meeting, watching all the bosses of F1, the FIA, the teams, trying to get involved.
"I have nothing to gain by being there.

"They've been making all these decisions and never once had a driver's input in that room.

"If that can be the decisive point that can help shift it and give fans better racing I would be proud to be a part of that."

^ Hamilton down to 5th after "3 Place Grid Penalty" - could this be the first time this season he's out of the Top Two finishers?

Apparently he's starting in 4th, for reasons I'm not clear about (other grid penalties, I think). With Le Clerc and Verstappen on the front row of the grid anything could happen! Looking forward to a decent race for a change, instead of the usual procession.

Thanks for that DM - just checked on the Planet F1 Website: -

"The FIA’s system for applying grid penalties meant Hamilton would have dropped from second to fifth where it not for Kevin Magnussen’s gearbox penalty coming into play and putting putting Hamilton up to fourth."

Full Story: - https://www.planetf1.com/f1-races/austr ... prix-grid/

Certainly agree that it "should" be a far more interesting race today - especially with Ferrari's/ Leclerc's superior speed. Personally, can't stand Vettel, so a 9th place on the Grid suits me fine! :neener: :butt:

With you all the way on Vettel - self-entitled brat with too high an opinion of himself. That incident a couple of years with Hamilton on the restart after a safety car was shocking. I'm a Mercedes fan, broadly sepaking, and I like to see hamilton doing well coz he's a Brit, but there needs to be more competition in F1 and I'd like to see Le Clerc do well (and put Vettel in his place at the same time!).

'What the hell': Controversy erupts over never-before-seen F1 finish

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/f1-austrian ... 39348.html

Max Verstappen and Charles LeClerc have combined to produce the youngest 1-2 finish in a Grand Prix in F1 history, but controversy marred the finish.

Red Bull's Verstappen won the Austrian Grand Prix after beating Ferrari's Leclerc in a wheel-banging battle of the 21-year-olds.

The Dutchman's victory, confirmed by stewards some three hours after the race following an investigation, was his second successive triumph at Spielberg and ended Formula One champions Mercedes' streak of success.

Verstappen seized the lead from Leclerc, who had led from pole position, two laps from the end with the duelling pair making contact into the tight uphill turn three as the crowd roared.

“What the hell,” LeClerc raged as Verstappen made contact.

Acclaimed by thousands of orange-shirted Dutch fans at a circuit owned by Red Bull, Verstappen crossed the line 2.7 seconds ahead of the Monegasque but with stewards summoning both to an inquiry.

The decision, after a review of video evidence, was to take no further action and confirm the sport's youngest ever top-two finish on Sunday.

"We still believe that this is the wrong decision, that's our own opinion," said Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto.
"We believe that Charles left entire space, he had no fault, a collision has happened and he has been pushed off the track.
"We believe these are the rules, which we may appreciate or not, and these are exactly the same rules which have been applied in past races."
