Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Just had a walk around town there are a couple of bars open ( murphys is one) but the rest are all closed. People are just sat in restaurants drinking. Lets see what happens at 6. I have supplies but would have liked to watch some football later. Even with a soft drink
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Limelight bar was closed down by police and 2 girls taken away. Seems punters were still drinking after 6.
Murphys was told to close by police even though they were only serving food and soft drinks. Managed to catch the championship game.
Loads of rugby fans coming in for food and were turned away. Seems crazy when the bar was abiding by the rules.

As usual, it has nothing to do with the reason for 'no alcohol' but more to do with the gang of 'little Hitlers' who purport to be our police force.

It appears other restaurants were open with no interference. A local police friend of ours says that the police cannot close a restaurant down without reason. i.e. selling alcohol.
I guess St. Patrick's day will be delayed until after 6pm today.

I was drinking in busy bees on Saturday evening after 6 but we had to pay upfront for drinks, at 6:30 more or less exactly when I said they’d arrive; police. We came back later and had our own supply of ‘holy’ water, no problem putting a little into our Cokes. Was in Murphy’s bar earlier and they said they’d be open till 1am but no alcohol after 6pm.

24-hour alcohol ban for election
Thais go to the polls on Sunday for the first time since 2011, which also means there will be a 24-hour alcohol ban this weekend.
Alcohol sales and distribution will be forbidden from 6pm on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday. Officials say weddings, parties and other celebrations can still be organised for these dates but there must be no alcohol served or consumed.

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
I read an article indicating that pubs/clubs closed in Bangkok and restaurants told not to serve alcohol over the Coronation period. Unfortunately the article was not specific if all this applied to just venues close to where the official events are taking place, or to the entire city?
Unknown if any of this will apply to places outside of Bangkok.

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
It seems the governor has 'requested' that night life in the 'old quarter' around the coronation be closed. There is no ban on alcohol sales anywhere else (confirmed by the police).
An anonymous source from the police has stated that security will be lax in the rest of the city (after hours drinking has a good chance of getting away with it) as more than half of the police force are involved in 'coronation security'.

King’s Coronation public holiday
As the nation celebrates the Royal Coronation of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun this weekend, the third and final day of the ceremony on Monday (May 6) will be a national public holiday.
as will bank branches in shopping malls.
All Royal Thai Police, Tourist Police stations, hospitals and shopping centres will remain open and some local consulates will remain open to serve their respective citizens.
There will be no ban on alcohol sales as this holiday is not a major Buddhist holiday.
Phuket City Police have confirmed that they have not yet received an order to enforce a ban on the sale of alcohol for the Royal Coronation holiday.
The Class Act Media office will be closed on Monday, and will re-open on Tuesday (May 7).

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Has HH taken it upon themselves to call a bar closure today? (wouldn't be the first time) As far as has been reported, there were no plans to close bars. Just called a mate in BKK and he tells me that the bars in his locale are open as usual.
Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
I've noticed a few closures whilst driving around today, but have no idea if it's 100%. Was able to buy beer in Tesco this morning.

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin
Well the couple of bars near me on 112 are closed, as are all the bars on 102 and 94 so I'm guessing the rest of HH is the same.

I was under the impression that this was a joyous time, a celebration.

The major Buddhist holiday Visakha Bucha Day will be honored this Saturday (May 18), followed by a substitution day public holiday next Monday (May 20).
As Visakha Bucha Day is a holy day, all shops, bars and restaurants are barred from selling alcohol for 24 hours from midnight to midnight on Saturday (00:01hrs-23:59hrs). However, there is no ban on the sale of alcohol next Monday.
