Sadly if they realise or not they don't seem to care, its laughable really. But if you let it get to you it can get you down, its better to remember why we are here in the first place, beautiful weather, women cheap food and a more relaxed way of life.
By the way I have lived in Hua Hin for 7 months frequenting soi binterban every night and never seen a single fight?

The downside of tourism is that it does bring some unsavory elements into a place - drugs, prostitution, and rogues. The Thai society has always been a contradictory one - peaceful, friendly, but then again, the violent side is always present. Nowaday, with too many young people on drugs and other stimulants, the violence has become more prominant than ever.
It would be sad if increase in tourism turns Hua Hin into another Pattaya or Phuket...

whoa is us. the four hoursemen approach and death is in the wings. crap, crap, crap... so some guy gets the shit kicked out of him by some thais, under strange circumstance's. there was more going on here than meets the eye. whatever! you live in heaven and every once in awhile some angel will freak out and throw some halos. you let every single bit of news bother you and soon you locked up inside your own mental and physical jail. it's safe in hh, it's safe in hh... repeat after me it's safe .... the news will drive you crazy. you want safe go to...ahhhh well... hell if i know.

Its not so much the thais that can be a problem (unless you cross them then it becomes tricky), but some of the falange 'rogues' that are a blight on this fair town of Hua Hin.
I know most of you guys on the forum are cool, but there are some that lurk in Hua Hin who are nothing but trouble to us laid back types!
One shining example being a certain bald large canadian gentleman who claims to be everything from a mercenary to a rig worker and blatantly slags off other expats.
Cannot name him openly but suffice to say he has been a tremendous problem to certain expats. The sooner his sort cleared off the better.
The Thais on the other hand will be thais. Angels throwing halos is a good comparison!
