Price comparison FOOD - Hua Hin/U.K
Re: Price comparison FOOD - Hua Hin/U.K
Why would dumb dumb pay a tenner for rice noodles . He wouldn't. Thai food in Uk restaurants is for people who cant manage a wok with a splash of oil. I can't cook. Really, I'm rubbish... I get the timing all wrong - sausages are done but eggs still cooking and tomatoes not cut. etc.
Thai food is a piece of piss. Hence any ol' farmer up in Issan manages just fine. It's not rocket science. It's not expensive either - except the seafood.

My OP was about cost price from local shop/markets. Restaurants can charge whatever they like. I'm discussing the cost price, from source, to make your dinner. To cook Thai food (with pork, beef or chicken) in the Uk is the same price as it is in Thailand. With seafood it is considerably dearer in the UK.

I have to be honest and say that I don't see the point of these comparisons. I have pesonally, never ever, considered the cost of homemade beans on toast! What might cost a little extra here, because of the ingredients, is compensated for in other ways. And as I would be eating different things to you, my price comparison will be different, I'd say mine is generally on a par with the UK. But as it's clearly much cheaper overall to live here, why worry?

Agree 100%, caller. It's different for all of us.
Re: Price comparison FOOD - Hua Hin/U.K
Yes. What it will cost me for a meal for one when buying at the local shop. I'll do the breakdown eventually but, anything with baked beans is already overpriced. We pay a pound for a tin of baked beans here. 30p in the UK (or 15p if you want that cheap shite). Sausages are cheaper. Bread is cheaper. The one I don't understand is - tuna's cheaper. Why is tuna cheaper in he UK?caller wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 5:11 pmI don't understand these comparisons. Are these meals you prepare yourself?Lost wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 11:55 am Jacket Potatoes, cheese and beans.
UK - £1.20 Hua Hin - £3.00
Beans on toast
Uk - 40p Hua Hin £1.20
Full English
Uk - 2 of each (we don't play by them rules we have 4 of each...and load it up) £2 Hua Hin (bit of withered bacon, a single sausage, 3 baked beans and and a poorly egg £3.
Tuna and cucumber sandwich
Uk - 50p Hua Hin £1.30
Anyway... anything with baked beans you are already paying 75% more. It's like a Scot having to pay triple for his haggis. An Irishman for his potato. A Mexican for his taco.
We get through 3-4 tins of beans a day. It adds up.

There is no 'point' or agenda here. You lot seem to be getting your feathers ruffled for no reason at all. It's a simple fact, that it is cheaper to eat in the UK. Better quality food too. And Thai food, excluding seafood, is the same price to cook in the UK.
The thread is about price comparison with FOOD. You lot give me a bloody headache. I feel I'm in Nursery again.

Get off your stool. Put your Chang down and read the title of the thread. Jesus!

Re: Price comparison FOOD - Hua Hin/U.K
Really? Depends on where you buy your sausages. Mine were from actual butchers in my village, or from a butcher in each of two nearby towns. Half a dozen sausages easily matches the price here.
Talk is cheap
Re: Price comparison FOOD - Hua Hin/U.K
I'll happily stand corrected regarding the sausages. Wasn't 100%.
