An example of Thais caring for their own environment:
13-14 Nov, 57 students and teachers from Concordian International School Bangkok had a field trip to Pranburi for cycling, beach clean up and more.

56 Heroes collected 50 Kg of trash during yesterday's beach clean.

As always, a great effort, and much appreciated - thank you.

It is superb indeed, but what's particularly disturbing is that in the 21st century such things have to be accomplished by volunteers and charities instead of the relevant authorities.

45 Heroes (including a Bluport team and a Hua Hin Bike Tour team) cleaned 280 Kg. of trash from the beach this afternoon. Surprisingly, there was no Krathong waste, but there's always plenty of other trash at this location.

A great effort by everybody, and a big thank you to all concerned.

Wow!!! That looks/sounds horrendous. Papaya says no krathong waste found by the Heroes yesterday. It was difficult to translate the above - so, as a clever Thai reader, is the problem exclusive to Takiab, or nationwide? I would never have imagined such hazards hidden within the beautiful krathongs. I'm pleased our krathongs were made from fish food this year.

It is a very Thai-specific mass pollution problem.

Their surveys this year indicated only 5% were styrofoam based krathongs, which is a big improvement.

I would imagine those natural based (banana trunk, bread etc) krathongs provide some nutrition to sea life.

Any ribbons, plastic flowers and metal tacks certainly do not! :banghead: Pete
