BEWARE !!!!!!

Post by richard »

Or should I say be aware!!!

There have been many threads about Hua Hin security

In BK one knows to be street wise but the same is now applicable to Hua Hin

Why am I posting this????? Only last night an attempt was made to break into my property. The padlocks were 'screwdrivered' but failed

After attending a talent concert on the canal road I can only assume we were followed home and after falling asleep attempts were made to force the locks on our doors

A couple of Rottweilers would solve the house problem, but even walking the streets now seems dodgy. Guess the answer to that is dress down and look like a vagrant!!! Not easy if you are a smart person like me

:)

In the Uk it is now commonplace, in BK it is commonplace, Hua Hin is unfortunately heading in the same direction

All and sundry - please be vigilant and watch your backs

Hopefully your padlocks were of a sufficient quality to make the attempt a failure.

Alway ensure that the padlocks are the real hardened steel type costing from 250 Baht upwards. The cheap Chines 100 Baht locks can be undone with a screwdriver of even a paper clip easily.

I saw a locksmith take 30 minutes with an angle grinder to get through one of the real hardened ones.

I know it may strain some budgets but a live, human security guard from dusk to dawn at 6,000-8,000 baht per month is a good investment. Even better if you have some farang neighbors willing to chip in. The man can guard 2-4 houses for about the same monthly fee. Give him some food, coffee and a tip now and then and he'll be honest and loyal.

Thieves are like water, they follow the path of least resistance which would be houses without good locks (doors and windows) and a live security guard. Pete

Anyone want a guard dog? Far cheaper than the security guard!

That too, LOL. "Live" is "Live" either 2 or 4 legged.

Just hope the old days (80's early 90's) don't come back where groups of 4-6 with firearms would pick a secluded neighborhood and empty it from one end to the other. Anyone home would be duct taped with an M-16 to his head while his house was looted, inclusive of refrigerators, washing machines and built in gas stoves. Not in HH folks, the Pattaya side of the pond, when the police had second jobs as robbers at night. Pray those days are gone forever in this Kingdom. Pete :guns:

PS: A bit inspired now so will tell the whole story. 15 years or so ago we lived in a small neighborhood half way between Pattaya and Jomtien. It was a great place then but has now deteriorated into 1.2, 1.5 million Baht 2-3 bedroom small single family homes that have been now re-purchased by mostly Thai's.

I lived at the end of a dead end street with 3 house on the left and 3 on the right, back in next to a jungle area. The first house on the right was owned by a Swedish guy who was summering back in Sweden, the 1st on the left by a Bangkok Thai couple who was not there but the place was fully furnished. 2nd right was a really sweet Dutch guy who had just turned 81 and he was actually a POW of the Nazis in Holland during WWII. 2nd left was a Swiss guy and a German guy both with live in girls. Swiss was some kind of engineer and the German a dentist. 3rd right was a gay Thai living in Bangkok and only came on weekends, excuse me, 'visited' and was not there. 3rd left was me and Mrs. Pete #2. I was in Hong Kong on business and Mrs. Pete was at her Mother's house in Chachengsao.

Each and every house was emptied of everything, including wardrobe closets. 2nd Right and Left were home and tied up as described above, and watched everything, but not harmed.

When the entire event got investigated and hashed over, it turned out that a pick up truck with a guy and girl had been seen everyday for a week parked at the end of the soi. The thought at the time was that they were lunchtime lovers. Truth was they were casing the soi. The driver of the pick up turned out to be a police corporal who also made sure none of his patrol buddies came near the soi while it was being emptied.

This is not a unique story for Pattaya. It happened weekly over here in those days. Pete

Dogs

Post by big jimmy »

I have to say..being honest..I have no time for dogs...but to be realistic..its not the dogs I have no time for..its the dog owners who piss me off...having to walk down paths that have dog feaces really pisses me off...why can't the owners take responsibility for their dogs and respect other people /..seems to me the dogs can do their business anywhere they want..and the owner doesn't care....lets make a dog licence us$500 a year...and then responsible dog lovers will be the only ones to have them.......I rest my case ..and wait the torrent of abuse to come...

Absolutely, maybe I wouldn't have to shovel someones dogshit off my drive everyday if the owners took their dogs to crap in their own house.

No torrence of abuse

TIT

I've watched a bitch have 6 puppies and despite all the help they gave her
would not put her out of her misery. I spent 3 sleepless night in KK listening to her die

She wailed , lost use of her front legs, then her rear legs. eventually she died

reason for not killing????? Maybe a reborn relative. Remember their culture!!!!

kill to eat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware.. Crime in Hua Hin

Post by TnT »

Is crime bad in Hua Hin? Am used to it in UK.. was hoping for a quieter "safer" life in Hua Hin!! Or do you just have to be sensible? Many burglaries?? and do you all have House insurance over there or is that just a British mentality "thing"?? :?

I find this romantic twoddle!

In 7 years I've never seen a Thai Driver move a steering wheel 1 degree to avoid running over a reborn relative.

Reason the dog was allowed to die?

Life is cheap!!!!

I'm not going to abuse you, but dog licences will not solve the problem of stray dogs or inconsiderate dog owners, and will, in fact, make it a hell of a lot worse! And just how many Thai dog lovers do you know who could afford $500? And then there is the age old problem in Thailand of a law being enforced - do you really think the cops are going to deal with it? They can barely be bothered to enforce driving laws, and as His Majesty the King is a renowned dog lover they are not going to do anything about the ownerless dogs except 'encourage' people to house some of them. The 'neuter and release' programme planned by Dawn is the answer, alongside education (as always) and some sort of government (local or otherwise) plan. However the chances of the latter two happening is remote, and before anyone else says it, it is not our place to tell the Thais what to do!
Sorry for continuing the straying off topic....

Life is cheap!!!!

And this statement is just incorrect. The Thais in general will avoid running over any animal.

Life being cheap is one of those statements that needs much discussion and means nothing as a one liner.

One of the reasons why there are so many stray dogs around, many of which just lie in the road, is because the Thais avoid them.

The Buddhist faith was built on the basis that you should only kill to eat.

Anyway I think we are sliding off topic a bit here.
