Relocating out of Thailand for an extended period

Anyone ever considered relocating out of Thailand for a period of 6 months plus?

In the past I was lucky that my work enabled me to travel extensively, thereby never spending excessive periods in HH. Having now been here for a few years I really have itchy feet and want to get away somewhere for at least 6 month or longer.

I am not really interested in big cities, EU or USA, never been around Asia much, have visited many places in M.E, Africa and Oz. Not tied to Asia but do have an interest in Viet/Cam/Laos, however open to any locations worldwide.

Naturally there are some basic requirements
1. Easy to obtain a long term visa without the need of a local sponsor.
2. Relatively safe place to live.
3. Cost of living something similar to Thailand/HH.
4. Suitable for a single male traveler if you know what I mean.
5. English language widely spoken, or at least as good as Thailand to get by.

Would really appreciate it is you would expand on why you recomend someshere specific.

I think a lovely place, with the requirements of a single man fulfilled also, but I think some parts aren't good (Yes, I know the US overreact). Voted the 11th most dangerous world destination this year. But I think personally I'd go, but avoid western Mindanao around the Zamboanga region. Muslims again, I'm afraid. And if you're not interested in cities (like Manila) then no worry I suppose.

Phils should have been top of my list, I have worked with many Filipinas both male and female, lovely people and they truly do smile all the time. Also have a few friends there but presently away on contract
Amazing the US always warns about visiting certain countries, about time those countries warned about visiting the USA.

i spent 4 months in Cambodia and really liked it. Some old hands say it is like Thai 25 years ago.I was surprised that the level of spoken English was better than Thai and I never felt any resentment about me being there. C of L--less than HH, availability of female companionship, quality not quite as good as Thai. but no shortage.

Have not been there in recent years, but if you want to be near the beach, Sihanoukville in Cambodia is / was a nice laid back place. Not too far from Thailand if you need to come back anytime.

Farther away Costa Rica can fit your list. Reasonable cost of living, relatively safe, English spoken a lot and company can be available. I spent a lot of time around Central America and like it a lot. Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador can be dangerous, but CR, Belize, Panama and Nicaragua are all pretty safe.

Have been to both Phillys and Cambodia several times. Visa easier in both, cost of living cheaper in both, English more widely spoken in both.

This has been discussed at length many times on this and the others forums that the average living standards (ie not to eat a crap local food and not to stay at a stinky shack) cost more in Cambodia than in Thailand

Sihanoukville is Cambodia's Pattaya, I would NOT recommend it. About an hour east of there is KAMPOT. In the days when the French were the colonial power, it was their vacation town. On the coast, quiet, safe and enough foreigners there to make it interesting and has the best hospital in Cambodia, run by the Swiss and Americans. A significant number of expats who have moved there from Thailand.

More than that, it's the dirtiest place I've ever visited - it makes Thailand look clean. A friend who lives there reckons it's mini-China now. They've moved in big-time and have built casinos everywhere.

that's why I recommend Siem Riep which is RELATIVELY clean, safe and civilised + Angkor Wat as a bonus
