That's good, let's leave it at that and see if we can get along and contribute. The next time I'm down there, we're going to split a keg and talk. Petesargeant wrote: By the way i have been a civilian for 25 years i am as civilian as you freakin are

Jet ski's
Dear Dawn
What you say is 100 per cent right.
For the last seven years we have spent three months every year in the area between Beach Garden and the old Regent hotel(now Holiday Inn).
They bring the jet skis to the beach some from a fishing village and the others from people that live in a shack on the beach near the Regent chalets.
They are in awful repair and they have fuel cans sitting on the beach in the blazing sun.The owners hoon around when there are no customers to try and attract attention.
They even offered my 12 year old grandson a cheap rate ao they really have no morals.
We all know there are rules in Thailand and i'm sure there are ones covering jet skis.
Surely to God there is one person in authority in the area that can say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Keep up the good work Dawn.

Three times while there we went to the big beach south of HH, the far side of that big rock mountain where the water is very calm. Did not see any jet skis there at all, except for two old models with small outboard motors towing banana boats. Perhaps they are banned from that area? Are there designated areas where they are allowed and not allowed? Pete

on this even i agree they should be banned full stop i dont know for sure but i would bet that they are the same rusted clapped out death traps that were there 9 years ago
As lomu me and my mate believe they were banned at some stage i am just stunned they are back
I am almost certain there is no age limit or regulations whatsoever for jet skis which i find mindboggleing and i certainly hope someone in authority says enough

Pay for some Police on the Beach if you feel this strongly about it.
DOUBT IF YOU EVEN DIP YOUR TOE'S IN THE SEA LET ALONE GO TO THE BEACH, ITS FOR THE TOURIST'S, IT'S AN ATTRACTION.
Go drink your bottle of Chang and moan about the women, then go to an inter cafe and moan on here.

Why get angry, feel the music
Trouble is rules and regulations need enforcement. Something Thailand is not at

Interesting point of view H&S. As richard says, thank you for your input. Most illuminating. You may find that a number of Thais disagree with your statement quoted above. I have a feeling, though my knowledge of the locals is scant, that the local Thais may think the beach belongs to them, not the tourists and that for many (fishermen, food sellers, even jetski touts

Jetskis in the wrong hands are dangerous. My two sons and niece were almost killed when a drunk Thai pointed the jetski at the beach. He missed them by inches and the jetski ended up on the mat my sister-in-law had been sitting on moments before, almost five meters up the beach. This happened in front of Pattaya Park, less than twenty meters from the lifeguard rescue station. They didn't bother as nobody died...

You have neither.
Please remember you are a guest in Thailand it's a shame some of their kindness and dignity has not rubbed off on you.
HOW COULD A JET SKI BE A TOURIST ATTRACTION?
There are rules in Phuket where the owner that hired out the jet ski must have a special marine licence.
Every jet ski must have painted on both sides a large registration number.
Anyway someone was killed here and as sensible people we are just trying to stop someone else meeting that fate

When this thing first came up I found a site that gave all the rules and regulations for jet skis in Phuket.
I will have a search around again and see what I can find

I cannot say if the rules are enforced but they look nice when you are reading them.
I just put JET SKI RULES IN THAILAND and up came sites with all sorts of interesting stuff.
Where we are one of the fishing villages diversified into jet skis when they were having a tough time fishing.
This was 6 years ago and now the jet skis are unsafe rusty machines.
Like Dawn said -its a way they make a living.
Thai's are the most resourceful people I know and we could learn a lesson from them

richard & sarge,
I think Mr H&S was on here fairly recently, under another username. He succeeded in winding people up then, and is trying to do it again. I think the best thing we can do is ignore him & hopefully he'll go away. He is enjoying the reactions - my best advice is
