The machines at the airport might not be a bad idea. It would be giving ins by a Thai company. It probably would not be a huge amount but would get things rolling.
The best thing about TI from your home country it includes-- EVACUATION INSURANCE--in other words to get you home to your own Health Care system and evacs are VERY expensive, put a pt on a stretcher (thats 3 seats) and a Dr and a nurse (and they have to come home) etc--VERY expensive

My wife was on holiday here alone when she was taken ill. She needed assistance returning home.oakdale160 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2017 8:51 am The best thing about TI from your home country it includes-- EVACUATION INSURANCE--in other words to get you home to your own Health Care system and evacs are VERY expensive, put a pt on a stretcher (thats 3 seats) and a Dr and a nurse (and they have to come home) etc--VERY expensive
Her insurance were happy to pay for me to travel to Thailand (including taxis to and from airports, hotels etc) so that I could escort her home. OK a bit of a zip trip, but I think it included 3 nights accommodation. I guess that was a cheap option - it certainly put my mind at ease.
The difficult bit was getting me on the same flight, which they managed eventually.

You need to read the fine print with this one! With most insurance companies you will find that evacuation will only be approved IF it is not possible to treat the condition where you are. Most of the bigger private hospitals in Thailand are capable and approved to treat a vast range of medical problems. Caveat Emptor.EVACUATION INSURANCE
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Yes, but 20 years ago she was 20 yrs. younger.
I have friends (a couple) who came to Thailand every year for 3 months. Now they are 92 and 93. Last year they came again and after a month the lady had health problems and they decided to fly back, they had to change their air ticket. That cost them for both nearly 800 Euro. This year they wanted to come again and they reasonably canceled their trip.
It's not idiot to say, one day you must realize that you have to change your life.
Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
Those that know me and have met my mum, will tell you that she's as sharp as a button and has never had any problems travelling on her own and enjoying her time here every year. You can't generalise based on age. There's a guy here who's 94 and still rides a m/bike and is a regular at my local. A very fit guy.
It is idiotic to add ill health etc to everyone who is in their advanced years. I know people 20 years younger who is nowhere near as fit as some.

And your end may come sooner than you expect, or you may live to be 100. If when you're in your 90's and fit as a fiddle, remember what you've said.

similar problems, less widespread. medical training in the west is much better than in Thailand. I have a few more medical stories, that took place here, but i'll spare you the details.Big Boy wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2017 2:41 pmI'm guessing, but if you know that as a fact, then they must have similar problems in the US.handdrummer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2017 2:17 pm if the doctor that operated on me had been in the u.s. he'd have been sued and lost his license.
Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
Actually, I've probably got a few more stories than you, and usually involved Thai doctors who claimed to have been trained in the US.

My comments were not about insurance companies generalising. I accept that. My comments were directed at Europrat who was insinuating that at a certain age you should stay home or be put down.
