UBC Problems....

Post by Ziggy »

Just had the satalite installed, and told that it will work 'in 2 hours'. No such luck. Went to the shop and was told, 'it will work later'. It did not. Returned to shop. 'Put the TV on channel 13'!!! That did not fix it. Asked for our money back. Refused. Argued. Finally, they will send someone tomorrow. I am missing out the details of the arguments we had in the shop.

Anyone else had this problem?

Not recently and not in HH but in a condo over here a few years ago. When a system is first installed there is a lot of things that need to be set and programmed through your remote. If they didn't tell you about that, or how to do it, it is not easy to figure it our yourself. Some of, if I recall correctly, was setting frequencies and/or satellite positions.

You'll may see some of these things by going to MENU on your remote and then SETUP. That's as far as I can advise.

If down the road all of a sudden the picture goes out, I've learned that if you unplug the system and wait about 15 seconds, then plug back in, the decoder box will re-program itself and you'll have TV again. You may even want to try that tonight and see what happens. Good luck. Pete

When did this happen? UBC was retuning all of it's stations on 23rd. Their channels were down & then you needed to manually reboot your system (instructions in UBC magazine for January). Even then, channels above 99 didn't come back until this afternoon. That might be your problem. :(

Depends on your receiver.

If ADB receivers (ABS 8976, ABS 9976, ABS 9877, ABS 3Q76)

1 Press Menu on your remote control & select SETUP
2 Select INSTALLATION
3 Enter password 2321
4 Select Manual Tuning
5 Select Apply these settings Press OK to confirm where indicated

For PACE receivers (PACE 500 & PACE 5000)

1 Press Menu on your remote control & select INSTALLATION
2 Enter password 4252
3 Select CHANNEL TUNING
4 Select RETUNE WITH THESE SETTINGS
5 Press OK button to retune frequency
6 Press OK to confirm

Hope that helps

You could give UBC a call at 02271-7171 then dial 9 for english and follow the prompts. That give you Bangkok and they should be able to sort it out for you.

Good luck

This indicates an activation problem. My suggestion is to run through the procedure that Dawn has described and then get the card out of the decoder and contact UBC directly.

The main UBC agent for Hua Hin is the one in Petchakasem road slightly north of the Chom Sin Lights on the seaward (east) side on the way to Tesco Metro. If you have your card with you they will contact UBC and get the status.

I got my UBC from Index. Although I was only on HH for 1 month over the Christmas period when it was installed. I did not loose any signal and it was perfect. The good thing is when I am back in England I do not have to pay. I just take the card to Index when I go back to HH and pay 1400baht for one month while I am on holiday.
