And something I still do after all these years....you may find yourself turning on your windshield wipers rather than your turn signals...LOL. Pete

I travel between Luxembourg and Thailand all the time, and I’m forever getting into the wrong side of cars to drive them. Apart from being embarrassing, it also fails to inspire confidence in your passengers!

Dave, ah yes, I have to admit I cheat by using an aircraft for the majority of the journey!

Thank you all guys for the advices.
Very usefull - you know, every country have its own unwritten roules.

In Greece i had to get use to when someone bleep, beep (not sure about the translation - but meens you hit the center of the steeringwheel !)
its meens "Thanks !"

In Denmark it normally meens the opposite - that the guy in the other car
tells you that you are an #&^%`"! - you did something wrong - you are an idiot etc.

I normally drive in the range of speedlimits - why be smart driving a road for the first time - but the greeks love speed with a passion.
So i pull over and let them pass - and normally allways get a beep. Nice.

Thanks for a great site and thanks for the comments.

have to have a minimum of assertiveness

While I agree that you need to slow down and be prepared for just about anything on the roads here, if you are too conservative the motorcyles will take all of your "right of way." At crowded intersections with no lights or traffic controls, you sometime have to show that you are taking the right of way, or you may be in a swarm of bikes and unable to move.

Of course, you must yield right of way to anything big when it comes to pulling on or of Petchkasem road or making a U turn there.

Pete, it all depends on where the car comes from. Euro cars have the turn signal on the left-hand stalk, while Japanese cars have them on the right stalk. I drive Euro, but company car is Jap - go figure...

I had the same problem when I went to Europe for a few weeks on company business - picked up the car from the airport straight off the plane and a long flight; was fortunate that they had dual carriageways, and had been there before, but only driven around. Did have my fair share of self-induced frights, believe me.
