Paint

Post by machersjohn »

I have looked in lots of paint shops hear for a product called Hammerite. It is made by a company called Finninghams. It is wonderful for painting steel that has rust attached and would be ideal for painting these iron grills that i have throughout my house, which would be a nightmare to strip tp bare metal and start a fresh. If anyone has come across it i would be eternally grateful to hear where or indeed if anyone knows of a like product.

I haven' seen it either but not looked in Market Village yet.

The normal thing here is to use read lead over the rust and then paint. They are at least twenty years behind the west when it comes to paint and very few can apply it. The great if you want your carpet, family pet dog, TV, front lawn and patio painted.

Another option is to get someone to bring you some over. Paint is not much cheaper her than in the west especially if it is imported like polyurethane.

Be sure you don't bring French paint over.
Actually its all right once you add a bit of water to thicken it up. :(

Hiya

I used it a lot myself, both in South Africa and in the UK. I have not seem it here at all but I have seen "hammered finish" spray paint cans at HomePro at Market Village. Not sure if its the same sort of paint but maybe worth a look.

Apparently I know nothing about paint - always thought adding water made it thinner

Paint

You may be better trying to find a "rust converter". Paint this stuff on and it will convert solid rust, (not flakey , loose stufff) ready to undercoat.
Google it for more info. As for where you can buy it I cannot help you, except to suggest a shop that supplies the fishing boats may be worth checking.

Cheers

Which is the best outside paint to purchase. I intend to paint the outside of the house and only wish to do it once. I intend to stay in this house for approx 5 years.

Any suggestions???

The paint that they used on the 105 story Baiyoke hotel is TOA Supershield. They do not want to climb that baby and paint her very often. I have just used it on my house

That is for covering concrete or other similar surfaces. Hammerite is for metal. I believe in large buildings the metal widow frames and alike use anodized alloys.

I have just noticed this. Due to my lifestyle I am always on the move. I am back on home turf at the moment doing some punting but will be back later and find some suitable accommodation.

BTW my cat has gone. You haven't by any chance had her pass through your abattoir, have you?

I am trying to do the ratting myself now but every time I get one in my mouth the bugger wriggles free.

I am hoping she has just popped out to get some Hammerite but it's been 3 months now.
