Have a look at download.com or cnet.com and search for DAV - a few free programes around. This is usually the format for CCTV.

Want to get a new TV, there are some really good deals on at the moment for large screen LCD TVs. Old current set (LG 32") is over ten years old and runs solely from a PC via a VGA cable, the TV is the monitor. We have all of our movie collection on the hard drive.

You cant buy a new TV with a VGA socket anymore, they're all HDMI only. The computer, (AMD X2 3GHz, 4GB RAM, Win7 64) which works perfectly well for this purpose, only has an onboard VGA slot. I've tried a VGA-HDMI converter cable and bought a new PCIe graphics card, neither of which worked (the card isnt recognised by the mobo so I suspect a toasted slot). AM3 mainboards aren't easy to come by either.

So has anyone got any bright ideas that I can try so that I dont have to shell out for a new PC as well as a TV?!

You could get a smart TV which can connect to your home router (ethernet or wifi) and hence the internet. Smart TVs also have dlna client capability and you could run a dlna server (serviio, plex, etc.)on your pc.

Smart TV cont/.. You could also get an ordinary TV and buy an android dongle/box which would effectively smarten the ordinary tv.

We use Thai Expat TV and 365 Sport, both running off PC - dont really want to buy any more set top boxes. The neighbour has a Smart TV and it is a world of hassle to setup and get working properly - will investigate DLNA a bit more though, thanks.

I just stopped using expat TV, but I used an Android dongle and the expat TV app and uktv app before that for two years connected to a standard TV. This combination essentially gives me a smart TV, but with less hassle than our Samsung smart TV.

Laptop Screen Repair/Replacement

Post by Pagey »

Done a quick search and I can't find any topic on this. My Acer laptop is only 6 months old and something fell on it which has damaged the screen. Not an actual break but it's like looking at a cracked mirror.

For my usual computer problems I use the guy on the small soi running from Canal Road to Soi 56, does anyone know if this is within his expertise or can anyone recommend some place they have used for a screen repair/replacement.

Thanks.

I don't know if it's within his capability, but please be aware that he's moved. I'll try to find the map to his new place.

I had a problem with my new Acer Laptop recently and took it to "Pure5 Hitech" right next to the Baggette on
Petchburi Rd. They are authorized Acer agents and fixed it overnight, without breaking the bank.

Mmmm, 2 days to go, I was going to ring him first anyway to see if it's something he can do as it's a bit of a trek but wondered if anyone else had any previous experience anywhere. Nereus was it a screen problem you had ?
