If you look at the synoptic charts there is a huge high pressure area over China and the South China Sea. Combined with the easterly and south easterly air flow, it is effectively blocking the SW Monsoon from establishing. Until it changes the only rain will come from the odd local thunder storm caused by mixing of cool air flow over the sea with the hot rising air over the land. Maybe around 2 to 3 weeks more, and as posted by Pete, when the Monsoon is established over India.

The Gods are having a shouting match over Bangkok this morning. Some miserable light rain, which I am inclined to think is the sun sweating, rather that actual rain.

Same over me as we speak. A lot of noise and darkness like the other day but nothing coming out of the clouds. :banghead: (again) Pete

Storm is coming: Bangkokians urged to get home before 6pm

http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2016/05/16/s ... t-home-6pm

(The Thai version which seems more detailed: http://www.matichon.co.th/news/137395 )

"The government has just given you a great excuse to leave work early today.

Following the worst drought in two decades, it is predicted Bangkok will be hit by its first rainstorm this evening, said Royon Jitdorn, Director of Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute.

Several areas in the city have been experiencing heavy rainfall this afternoon including Saimai, Bangsue, Chatuchak, Phaya Thai, Din Daeng, Huai Khwang, and Bangkapi districts, according to JS100.

"Bangkok is getting off to a bad start on the rainy season because they will be hit by a rainstorm at the very beginning. The average precipitation is at 100 millimeters, but it could go up to 150 millimeters," Royon said.

Royon suggested residents get home before 6pm if they don't have any important business outside, Matichon reported."

Light rain from about midnight on here in the east. Not a drought buster but enough to curtail watering for a day or two. I'll take anything! :D Pete

Some good solid rain for the last hour at the Lodge
Not torrential to cause flood run-off
Consistent medium to heavy - good ground soaking stuff.
Much needed

Just hope the power holds out..................
