Ratchapakdi Park Opening - Traffic Disruption

Post by Big Boy »

Just a reminder that there will be cycling events in and around the city tomorrow, 12 Sept to mark the opening of Ratchapakdi Park, which will result in some road closures plus other significant traffic disruption.

From what we can gather, these events will be going on for most of the day - unfortunately we can not obtain precise detail yet. If anybody knows more detail, please post here.

This is what we could gather so far from the people registering us for the race. They have said that the road will partially closed for the 126k and 30k bike rides that begin at 9am tomorrow. The rides go from the park down to Pranburi and then up to Cha-am and back down Patchakasm road to the park. Most of the way along there they will close one lane of traffic. At 3.30pm H.M the Princess will take part in a ride and the whole road from the park to over the flyover will be closed. They weren't overly clear with the details but if you are taking part in the race you need to be there before 8am and take the registration form along with you.

This is from our internal communications as our reservations team have been busy calling all arrivals and telling them what to expect:
Traffic 1.jpg
Traffic 1.jpg (62.45 KiB) Viewed 1393 times
From my somewhat iffy translation, a 40 km stretch of southbound lanes of the bypass will be closed 7.00A.M. - 1.00P.M. and the northbound lane will be two-way.
Traffic 2.jpg
Traffic 2.jpg (60.95 KiB) Viewed 1393 times
A 32-kilometre stretch of Petchkasem Road from Cha-am Forest Park to Rajabhakti Park will be closed from 3.00 - 6.00P.M.. Access to Hua Hin/Cha-am will be via the Bypass and Canal Road.

Princess dropping in for afternoon tea around 4.00P.M. so makes sense.

There are details on the Huahin.go.th website. Not very good details though, as the kilometer markers mentioned seem all wrong to me. As far as I can see the 126 km race goes from Rachapakdi to Pranburi then on the bypass to Cha-Am. Then back the same way. There will be lane closures on this route from 7am until 2pm.

There will also be a 33 km bike ride led by Princess Bajrakitiyabha from Cha-Am to Rachapakdi. This will be along the main Phetkasem Road and there will be traffic interruptions accordingly. The website says from 7am until 7pm.

Only if the signage is correct (not always a given in the LOS)

Driving around this morning on the road from Soi 88 to the vet hospital, there are plenty of signs saying that the road will be closed from 2pm until 7pm.

I'm guessing that means in both directions.

Bring on Monday, I rarely go out weekends anyway so this another reason to stay in.

Visited the park 10 days ago (on a Tuesday), very nice but hot. Just one area to sit and sign book/donate etc. Impressive.

I'm hearing reports of cars still parked in the 'closed' areas are being towed away at owner's cost. Anybody else heard this, or just a wind up?

If true, I hope it includes motor cycles, which seem to be immune to parking restrictions.

Not been out, so not witnessed it personally but certainly they were warning that's what would happen.....

The "Bike and Concert" event started early this morning with thousands of bicyclists coming to register to take part at the Ratchaphakdi historical park in Hua Hin district of Prachuab Khiri Khan.

Chairman of the “Bike and Concert” organising committee Air Chief Marshal Phisit Sithisarn presided over the ceremony to start the 126.6 kilometre long biking event at 9.00 am today.

Organising committee official said the Bike and Concert event drew over 3,000 people to take part.

One of the aims of the event was to raise fund to support the park and its activities.

The Ratchaphakdi historic park has been constructed solely through public donations.

The highlight of today’s event was the participation of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha who will be riding a bike to lead a bike campaign caravan for a total distance of 34 kilometres to raise more donations for the historical park.

The biking route starts from Cha-Am forest park in Phetchaburi province and ends at the Ratchaphakdi historical park, where HRH the princess will stop for a tour at there to learn about its history and to watch the concert scheduled to be held in the evening at Suan Son Pradipat beach.

Meanwhile, the public would be participating in a bike race for a total distance of 126 kilometres, starting from the Ratchaphakdi historic park, through the bypass intersection and Wat Huay Mongkol Temple, before making a u-turn on the Cha-Am bypass to head back to the historical park, which would signify the end of the race.

Yesterday Army Chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr arrived in Hua Hin for final inspections and rehearsals to welcome HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha.

The army chief ensured that all preparations, including the biking route and security, are completed and the event is now ready to be initiated as planned.

Latest figure of the registrations for the bike race currently stood at over 3,000, in which the army chief has reaffirmed that everything is going according to plan.

He further noted that if the race ran into heavy downpours, it would be temporary hold off until the rain stops before continuing.

The event is said to be the biggest biking competition in the southern region and is seen as a representation of the unity of the people in their wish to see the historical park completed beautifully.

Look's like another busy weekend on the roads around the park, the Kings son is visiting.
