Mini bus crash between Cha am and Petchaburi

Post by Bas »

Yesterday the mini bus from 5.30 PM to Bangkok had a roadaccident just out of Cha am, probably because of a burst tire.
All passengers were injured and as far as i heard stay in hospitals in Cha am and Petchaburi. Also my girlfriend who is injured on the lower back. All except for the driver who was not wounded.

Anybody have more news on this?

Listening to Thai news on Surf FM yesterday and they were waxing lyrical about motor maintenance. "It's for free" now, in the run-up to the festive season.
I suppose that would be like an MOT, in the UK. I do hope it is and that people take advantage of the offer.
Sorry to hear about your girlfriend, Bas. I hope she recovers quickly.

I would imagine the reason the driver was the only one not injured because he was wearing a safety belt? The way these drivers tear up and down to Bangkok, weaving in and out of traffic is frightening.

The new cheap toyota mini buses that do the hua hin- bkk route don't have seat belts or arm rests, very hard cheap uncomfortable little seats but can fit an extra passenger or 2 over the older more comfortable ones.
Life is cheap to Thais. Hope the people who were injured have only quick healing injuries and not ones that will go back to haunt latter in life.

There's another problem these days and that is the roads everywhere in Thailand are atrocious at the moment. Main causes, damage from rainy season not yet fixed, and overweight trucks slowly destroying them.

I took a MV from Pattaya to the airport yesterday and even on the Motorway, we had to dodge potholes as well as ongoing construction obstacles. Even with new tires, you'll have flats and blowouts hitting those things continuously. Pete

got a seat belt in a new MV last week

I was lucky, as only about half of the seats had belts - it seems that they tuck them down in the seats.

Always a bonus when you find a belt and my ratio is one out of ten or so. If you take them all the time, some sort of accident is inevitable, and I value my life more than the Thais value theirs.
