Two items that are not common to Rugby and change NFL football completely from its Rugby roots:

1) The forward pass.

2) Opposing lineman bashing into each other each play, and blocking in general.

I'm convinced that the NFL offensive and defensive line and what they do at the start of each play is taken from the Rugby scrum....IMO.

The NFL has laterals, but you don't see them used too much any longer. Cannot be forward but only back, exactly like Rugby passes. Pete

As a reminder, the second leg of the Bledisloe Cup between the Wallabies and All Blacks to be played this Saturday, August 15, at Eden park in Auckland. I don't have the times yet but assume evening making it late afternoon here. Pete

Knock-ons, and what the refs call, is starting to drive me nuts!...at least concerning southern hemisphere games. The ball is bobbled and moves an inch and the whistle blows, meantime he didn't see the clothes line tackle that happened while he was looking for a stupid knock-on! :guns: ...and then the ref's bewildered look as the strangled player is gasping on the turf. :banghead:

In any event, this is one case where Rugby could learn from the NFL. If a player loses possession regardless of what direction the ball goes in, it's a fumble. It can be recovered and advanced by anyone on either team. That's the ticket IMO. Pete

The Bledisloe Cup stays in new Zealand. The All Blacks were a true machine today winning 41-13. No story links yet, just finished 30 minutes ago. Pete

Other match reports here: -

Some baffling changes to the Wallabies line-up which backfired badly. Cooper is never the popular guy in NZ and I doubt very much will have many fans in Australia when the team returns!

Very clinical display by the Blackness in the 2nd half and certainly put out clear signals to the other RWC participants. The Crims' display on the other hand will have given some hope to the Welsh and English supporters!! :thumb:

Hello,

thanks for the information.

So I'll be able to watch the matches via Expat TV's ITV/ITV4.
Still wonder about Setanta though.

Warm regards,

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the match as the LHG dragged me kicking and screaming to a local eatery .....

From some of the reports I've read, it sounds like a bit of a mixed day for Satan's Squad and not a great one for Les Bleus who put out a fairly experienced side.

It appears the Lillywhites had the odd problem in the forwards, but the back-line performed well - Bath winger Anthony Watson standing out with a brace of tries. The penalty count was again high - something I hope repeats itself when they take on God's Own in the RWC!!

As for the Surrender Monkeys...... who can tell :? On their day they'll beat anyone and can be a joy to watch. It just depends what team turns up. Lately they seem to have things sorted in the forwards, but are not what you'd call inventive in the back-line (not something usually associated with the French).

Roles reversed, English flair in the backs, French strength in the forwards. The English pack contained 4/5ths second string players so it bodes well when the full team goes forth.

Yes, it was a strange game to watch.
We looked good in phases, as did the French.
I doubt many of the players involved for us will feature that heavily in the RWC.

We certainly did :D
Some of the scrums, line outs and defending was shocking at times.

Ben Burgess and Henry Slade looked impressive but there were to many pens conceded by far.
Seems to be a problem for us no matter who's in the line up. :?

Two yellow cards, Burgess being one of them and Slade was fortunate not to have been a third
I can only think it was down to trying to impress to much.

I suspect the game in Paris next week will see a completely different line up for us.

As for the surrender monkeys . . . . . . who can tell :?
Who care's ?

If I ever come across a full, unabridged version of the Rules of Rugby Union, I bet it's as thick as the New York City phone book! I don't even want to think about Rugby League. Below I post just for knowledge if anyone needs any in this regard. There are some rules I'll never agree with...but that's just me being me. The second link contains short You Tube coaching videos. Pete
