Agree with GD and BB about the no.2-28 and 33,thy looks very good.

Have promised my self to try and write only the positive thing so will not write anything about the game and hope its just the case of the first game after the break and a lot of new players.

I will however make a point about the twins attitude which GD also raised above, its simply not accepteble the gesture they use against their teammates all time ,and I think yesterday was really bad with their arm going up in the air to many times when theyt not got the ball or their teammates didnt play the way they want and as GD say it have to stop or im afraid we are in for trouble.

Byrne was not impressive at all imho and should not have started if not fit yet,but maybe the coach was thinking it would be a easy win and therefore let him start,I dont now.

Looking forward to the real action, even I have to go home start august.

My wife needed the car so it was a nice motorbike ride home :D

A good synopsis provided by GD + BB already, agree with just about everything that's been said already....

1 minor detail though is we actually lost 5-4 on penalties, not 4-3 as you both stated! Andre missed our first one but we scored our next 4, they scored their first 4 but missed their 5th, meaning it went to sudden death. Unfortunately for us our number 2 missed + they scored, game over!

I think the conditions and state of the pitch really spoiled the game somewhat and probably acted as a bit of a leveller of the 2 teams. We certainly created the most chances and were certainly unlucky not to have won the tie without it going to penalties. Especially in extra time once they were down to 10 men, it was one way traffic. Had a bad feeling about the penalties, you see it happen so often, the team that has been under the cosh then nicks it on penalties.

Not really too bothered that we lost, means we can concentrate on the league now, and as GD pointed out there were plenty positives to take from the match. It is effectively a new team and it was their first match playing together. I don't know the reasons why the Vietnam trip was cancelled but it's a shame as I feel a couple of friendly games would probably help the new players bed in. I'd quite like to see us arrange a friendly before the league starts again next week if possible.

Having said all that, each of the new players showed enough to convince me that they will improve the team. I agree that number 2 was man of the match, looks like he will be a great player for us. Michael Byrne, as has been mentioned already, showed he is a quality player. Not blessed with great pace but playing in that role, I'm not sure he needs it. Don't think he is quite 100% match fit, and I'm confident he will improve with a run of games. If I'm being critical though, I felt he was a bit too casual at times, almost arrogant, he gave the ball away a couple of times in quite dangerous positions that, against a better team, may have cost us dearly. As I say though, I'm confident he will improve as he plays more.

Both the full backs a massive improvement from our previous duo. Big Valery done ok when he came on, still not quite sure where he will fit into the team, as has been mentioned he was played slightly out of position when he came on, I'd imagine going forward if he's playing it would be at centre half. But to drop either Pu or Da, who continue to form an excellent partnership, would be a bit harsh IMO. He would have to be very good to warrant dropping either of those 2.

Of the new guys that just leaves number 32, indeed I was talking to GD at the game that I wanted to see him more involved, he showed flashes of great skill and pace but for whatever reason struggled to really get involved in the game, possibly the conditions didn't help him.... Don't want to make any rash judgements based on yesterday's performance, jury still out on him, hopefully he will come good.

All in all feeling quite positive after yesterday, my only slight concern is that this 'new team' may need some games to gel. Our first league game at home to Petchaburi, ok I'm confident we should be able to take care of them but then the following game is massive, away to Samut Sakon...... We could really do with being 'ready' for that one!

Yes, I was also aware of this yesterday, there's no doubting they are both good players but their attitude is a problem.

I said I'm not a statistician, I obviously can't count either

I only counted 5 penalties taken by each side - I'll have to re-watch the video again. Doesn't matter 5 or 6 - the result stays the same.

Just re-watched the video:

Andre - miss
Lucas - score
Valery - score
Wongsawad - score
Athit - miss

It definitely looks like we lost the penalty shoot out 4 - 3.

No, I think the video missed one penalty out. Unfortunately I'm struggling to remember off the top of my head who else took a penalty..... Was it the new left back.... Or Pu possibly?

If you look at the photo album they posted on Facebook, when the players are applauding the fans, you can see the score 5-4 on the boards as well. Indeed anywhere the game has been reported the score has been given as 5-4 on pens.

I also remember thinking at the time prior to them missing their penalty that they had to miss or we were out, that wouldn't have been the case if it was only their 4th penalty.....

You've got me doubting myself slightly now though, at the end of the day, as you say, it doesn't really make much difference, we're still out of the cup I guess!

Big Boy wrote::Your statement regarding Michael's fitness surprises me. I'm disappointed that we felt we needed to play him until fully fit. We had other options available against what should have been very weak opposition.
bsdk1960 wrote:Byrne was not impressive at all imho and should not have started if not fit yet
Feel I need to clarify what I said about Michael Byrnes fitness. I made comment about him not being 100% match fit. Match fitness is very different from general fitness. Michael Byrne is fit but as far as I am aware has not played a competitive match for months. Match fitness only comes with playing competitive games so the coach was right to play him to help him gain that match fitness.

Comments have been made about his lack of pace and I fully understand them. When I first saw Michael play in training my initial thoughts were the same in fact I would go further and say he did not even look like a footballer. My opinion very quickly changed. Having had the benefit of watching him in training for nearly a month now I can assure everyone that he is quick, possibly one of the fastest at the club. However his style of play doesn't necessitate the need for him to be sprinting flat out a great deal. He reads play exceptionally well and is generally in the right place at the right time which can, as some have already commented on, make him look slow or casual, he is not. Michael tends to use his pace in short bursts to beat a man and then pass or to create a shooting opportunity, we won't be seeing much of him going on long pacey runs down the wing that's for sure. The pitch conditions didn't help him on Wednesday either with the ground being so slippy. I am confident that as people see more of Michael and as he achieves greater match fitness they will see, as I have done, what a great player he is.

Something else that may have impacted on the performance on Wednesday was the fact that Michael was not originally going to play. As of last Monday his and Valery Hieks registrations and not been confirmed so they could not play. Whether they came through on Tuesday or Wednesday I am not sure but the starting 11 that had been playing and practicing together was that which played on Wedneaday but Wongsawad was in instead of Michael and Anucha, up to his injury on Monday was in instead of Jonato.

Early days and a little patience is required but I am sure we will be a great team in the second half of the season. Howay Hua Hin!

Have just noticed now, the club have announced 3 friendly fixtures on their Facebook, although it's all in Thai at the minute...

They play tomorrow but in Bangkok against Bangkok U Deffo, return to Bangkok again on Monday to play BCC Tero and then the last game on Wednesday against Chamchuri would appear to be getting played in Keng Grajan(or however you spell it) bit closer but don't think I'll be making the journey for any of those.

They've also put a disclaimer at the end advising some things may change and they will advise accordingly in the event of any changes.

Shame there's not any home games but glad they've got the games arranged nonetheless.

What is the difference between a friendly match and a regular game? Doesn't count in the statistics?
