hhfarang wrote:I always said that (with a few exceptions; you know who you are ) most of the expats I met in my tenure there were either running from something, hiding out, taking advantage of the lawlessness of the place, sexual deviants, or at the very least social misfits who could not fit in back in normal western society. Look around you the next time you're in a bar and tell me that the people not on that list are greater in number than the ones who are...
is sleeping with two girls at the same time "deviant" or just efficient cost savings?
you are right to a point, but go to a dive bar in N.C. in the middle of the day and what do you see? drunk trash. just like in Thailand. It is just more in your face here.
you forgot to list American Libertarians who like living in a very free place compared to the now ruined USA. And Anarchists who also like the Mad Max world of Thailand.
not to mention ultra cheap hospitals, say like 90% cheaper than Los Angeles with no waiting time in ER. Being able to live at the beach for one quarter the cost of a horrible apartment in Los Angeles. Ultra cheap work force so you can have a maid, driver, laundry and just about everything else for peanuts. overall a 66% drop in my living expenses. Being treated like a VIP at the banks and many other places because you are perceived as a HISO big money man because you have 800,000 baht (peanuts) in a Thai bank, have air con and spend 300 baht on dinner.
Good luck in N.C. I am sure it is nice for you, but I would shoot myself in the head after about a week.
yes there is a reason why you don't see many Americans in Thailand. For 99% it is a huge step down.
it is not for Americans who can't think outside the box.
my friends back in the states want to know how far i live from the slave camps. i told them they are across the street from me.
and yes, in one year i have met someone wanted for murder, one of my friends was murdered my her husband, another beaten, met a whole list of pathological liars, scores of depressed mentally ill people, con artists, and of course many SAS, MI6 and CIA agents.
anyway back to the topic. something about some guy going to court. anybody know the date he has to appear?
I don't think I could in North Carolina for a long time either, it would be way too boring.
I could easily live in NC, if I chose not to... Been there many times, have friends that live there.... As pointed out the cost of living and the way the health care system is going are a real driving forces for us to make this move... I have all my hobbies available to me for much less including my flying.... So with a great home in Palm Hills and excess to everything we need, I am good to go.... And just for the record I don't drink, not a deviant nor criminal... Just an expat looking to enjoy life!!
I actually met George some years back. Although he seemed to make a point of not attending Thai Visa functions, he did appear at the grand reopening party for the Farang Connection in Surin back in September of 2005. At that time the Farang Connection was a Thai Visa sponsor.
As I recall, he was sort of a low-key guy who seemed a bit shy. I was surprised that he knew who I was when I told him my Thai Visa user name. After the party he and I headed over to Surin's entertainment district for a few more beers. He paid.
He was also at the grand opening of the TV sponsored bar in Hua Hin a few years back. I forget the name of the bar but it was on Polsuk road sort of behind JW's place.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Poor Goerge! Sounds like if he is the unkempt fellow, then he does enjoy life!
I met a few people who became unshaven and smelled of the booze on occasion,
and I believe that their wife and life helped them onto that path.
I hope he managed to survive the court process and is living in freedom again in
LOS.
Today I read on the MSN home page about a Northern Florida elementary school teacher
who left her 18 month child inside of her car while she taught school for the day.
Her toddler was in the car from 7:30AM until she went back to the car just after 3PM
and found it dead in the car. I have not heard of this happening in Thailand, so at least
the Thai people can say that they are not this negligent.
So far no chargers are being laid, and I sure wonder why. RIP to the poor little soul who
died because of a forgetful parent.
This happens occasionally in Canada a well and I wonder just what kind of parents
would forget about their children and leave them in the vehicles!
Pluto is my favorite planet!, especially now that we all can see close up
pictures of it.
Me thinks some are stretching the facts in this case a bit and making judgements based on those incorrect facts. Need to go back and read the original article by Andrew Drummond. access from a VPN andrew-drummong.com
