I was sat in my car earlier this afternoon waiting for Mrs BB on the Railway Road at the top of Soi 80 looking towards Soi 88. I was parked on today's legal side of the road. I could see a lot of BIB activity around the cars parked on today's illegal side of the road. As I passed, they were actually clamping illegally parked cars.
Well done the BIB - long overdue. Long may the clamping on that stretch of the road continue. I'd love to see a Saturday Bangkokian getting clamped while they were getting their chicken fix,
Good! I hope they continue on to the p****ks that park facing the wrong way on the wrong side of the road. Starting with Sra Song road opposite the old air con bus station!
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
I must admit that I've been driving in Thailand for over ten years and it was only recently, when it came up on the forum, that I'd ever heard about this parking rule about which side you can park on on different days. Having said that, I rarely drive into town unless it's to pick up something larger than a scooter can handle, I went in a couple of weeks ago to pick up a large picture from a framers and I just pulled up in front of the shop, I haven't a clue whether it was on the right side or not.
^....and unless you can read some Thai your only clue is how most of the other cars present are parked on any given day. Perhaps in tourist places the signs are in English also, not where I live though. Pete

The signs here about which side of the road it is legal to park on are in English, albeit they always read ass about face to me. Instead of saying e.g. 'you can park here on even days', they word it 'you can't park here on odd days'.

I was caught with that crap 20 years ago in Bangkok. When I went to the police station the BIB tried to tell me: "it is an International law, same all over the world!"

Brand new red plated merc clamped on the same stretch earlier right opposite the chicken restaurant so they are not being biased. The signposts are clear in that area but not in others. Hope they get funded for a few tow trucks to move the triple parked arrogant doughnuts that we have to put up with every weekend. That said parking can be difficult in the town centre at busy times due to lack of available spaces. I park outside on holidays and get a motorbike taxi if I have to. Same when I am in Bangkok and not near a sky train.
15 years since I got clamped last so pointless post maybe. Had to go to the local small police station with licence and passport. Get the confirmation of the officers number which cost nothing. Say sorry and go to the main police station and pay 200 Bt before they removed the clamp. Pain in the backside but I broke the 6am change side of the road rules as I had been out on the town until 4am and was busy looking at the back of my eyelids when they rocked up. That was Phuket. No Idea here.
The epitomy (however one spells it..?) of Hi-So 'I'm from BKK & I'm rich, so I can/will park where I want' is indeed around the area of the 'chicken R/rant' on the Railway Rd...every single day that place is open we witness VW minibus/Transporter vehicles almost double parked (the driver sits inside to shoo-away MiB)..
ALWAYS THAI-CHINESE..!! (arrogant twats)..
..I think it's a big step forward when the humble H.H. MiB are now doing this, when so, so many times I've witnessed abuse when the patrolman is trying to issue a ticket...
...
(Next we need a tow-truck & a compound for Hi-So vehicles)
