The authorities spend 000's baht on these road works only to find that after the works are finished umpteen plastic red bollards are needed to make the new layout work.

Re: Klong Road Dual Carriageway Opens 27 Dec 14
I went to watch my son play football at Explode in Soi 10 earlier. Only 2 mishaps:
- On the way there, a little old lady was looking terrified as she rode her motorcycle the wrong way down the right hand lane.
- On the way home, a car was coming along the wrong side of the carriageway.
Nothing that you wouldn't see daily on a drive to Bangkok.
I had to try the U-turn to get back to Soi 10. A small Toyota saloon in front of me had to do a 3 point turn. However, I did it with room to spare in my big truck.
We went to Mr Burger 3 before coming home, so had an encounter with the Soi 6 lights. I honestly can't understand the adverse comments about them. Just another set of Thai traffic lights.

I agree with other comments on here about the lack of clear signage..
I came out of Samongopong (or wtf you call it?) 2nite..knew to turn left, but where's the damn U-turn..?? no signs for advanced info, plus how many months have the streetlights been erected for now..??..& none of them work FFS!..
Plus all the way back up to the Soi 6 Jtn..every noodle stall on the pavement = cars parked against the kirb while the occupants dined..thus making it (because of the width) back to single lane..
Will it get the mods we on the forum can see are so badly needed or will the municipality just leave it as-is..??

Every one of those thoughts went through my mind also, in particular the amount of parked cars. I guess people have got used to it being little more than a car park for a couple of years whilst waitng for it to open.usual suspect wrote:plus how many months have the streetlights been erected for now..??..& none of them work FFS!..![]()

So they don`t work at all then?I honestly can't understand the adverse comments about them. Just another set of Thai traffic lights.

As I have not seen them in operation, my comment was more concerning the eyesore construction used.

I drove that way to Makro this morning, and saw the lights for the first time in daylight. In eyesore terms, I don't think they were any better or worse than any other set of lights. However, they were moving quite a lot in the light breeze - I can't see them withstanding a decent storm.Nereus wrote:So they don`t work at all then?I honestly can't understand the adverse comments about them. Changing tack slightly - I saw 2 attempted u-turns, 1 successful, 1 that resulted in a 3 point turn.

I drove that way yesterday (just for fun and curiosity). Sure enough 3 bikes turned right out of a soi and came toward me on my outside lane. Stopped and pointed the new rules out to them and after looking at all the other traffic hurtling toward them decided to turn round and follow the flow.
The problem as I see it is that although the road has adequate signage and lines, there is nothing to inform traffic coming from sois over the klong that they can only do a left turn. So anyone not knowing will do what they've done for the last year.
Incidentally, coming back on the other carriageway, there were very few parked cars so maybe after a day, they've understood that you can't park on this road. Not good for the food sellers but .....

I found a U-Turn today that was too narrow for my truck. I started half way into the inside lane, and still couldn't complete the manoeuvre in one move
I was travelling North, just after the Samor Prong turning.

Going morth on the two lane is not bad but going south is a nightmare. Now that is is (supposedly) two lane large vehicles (and some bikes) have upped the speed to as much as 80/100 KMH and there are numerous trucks, cars and other obstructions parked in the left lane, especially south of the hospital road all the way down. Add these parked vehicles to the turnabouts and speedsters and this southbound is one of the worst roads in Hua HIn.
Re: Klong Road Dual Carriageway Opens 27 Dec 14
When I drove south, the parked cars/stalls had been cleared. The lineage shows there is no parking on the klong road. Doesn't take long for people to ignore the lines! What a waste of paint.
Re: Klong Road Dual Carriageway Opens 27 Dec 14
i have yet to see any truck make that u turn ,its a accident waiting to happen , at first i thought it was me ,but ive tried it so many times its impossible ,they should of narrowed the path a little ,you can see all the tyre marks on the kerbBig Boy wrote:I found a U-Turn today that was too narrow for my truck. Look at the statistics around U-turns. It really isn't a problem. Just in our superior western minds.
Re: Klong Road Dual Carriageway Opens 27 Dec 14
I'm sorry, I don't really understand that comment. What statistics? What isn't a problem?

So your U-turn was Thai style. Starting and finishing a U-Turn on the lane closest to the center of the road is a concept from countries with the rule of law, effective traffic law enforcement, wide roads, considerate drivers, etc.Big Boy wrote:I found a U-Turn today that was too narrow for my truck. Re: Klong Road Dual Carriageway Opens 27 Dec 14
Yes, definitely Thai style, and this was the first time I'd failed to complete the manoeuvre in one action. There aren't many opportunities to complete the manoeuvre in the manner you describe above in Thailand.
Even the purpose designed U-Turns often see me putting 2 wheels into the next lane. No problem with a saloon car, but usually an impossibility with a truck such as mine.
