I had a feeling there was something more recent than that - have a look here viewtopic.php?f=15&t=21199&start=165

Great....sure management will merge threads shortly.
While I'm here, haven't the various IPad devices and large phones more or less turned into ereaders as well? That may be the way to go for a multi-function device.

For reading only Kindle Paper white should be considered! Just like reading in a book. No back great and glossy screens which causing sore eyes.

Re: Kindles & e-readers
If you read a lot, get a dedicated e-reader like the Kindle and a cheap tablet for going online, don't try to combine the two as no single device will do the job at the moment. The big advantage with the e-readers is that they use a type of display that gives highly defined monochrome type and a huge battery life, weeks on end in fact but they're not very good at displaying web pages and the suchlike.
You can buy a Kindle and an Android tablet together for half the price of an iPad!

Ipad may well be more expensive but you can buy Kindle products to it as well. I am very happy with my ipad. Then again, if you only want an e-reader, the Amazon's Kindle is probably enough.

Re: Kindles & e-readers
For me the battery life of the Kindle is the best thing about them, when I travel to Thailand and back I can be on the go for 24-30 hours and I'll read for most of it, for a Kindle that's nothing, I think you get something like 5000 pages between charges, that's about 15 novels!
Kindle and possible Thai alternatives?

As the Thais seem to be able to copy anything, can someone suggest a local replacement, and where to obtain such thing? Also would I still be able to shop at Amazon and have the books downloaded to the new device?

I think most electronic things nowadays have a built in life capacity. That's how those company's make their fortunes.
I can't guide you in the right direction I'm afraid (looked through some Thai websites) and I'm not sure a reading tool is a very popular item in Thailand otherwise you'd see copy Kindles all over the place.

GLC - so do you think devices have a self destruct after so many days, use of battery, time in the sun, writing of nonsense?
The only way devices become obsolete is when the users needs are too far behind what the latest technology can provide for them.

That's your opinion and I have mine. Heard of the lightbulb? Evidently I'm not the only one who thinks some electronic items have a preset lifespan. Anyway, can't continue this discussion here and am not up for starting a conspiracy theory thread about objects.

Re: Kindles & e-readers
You can of course use google and study ' the great kindle conspiacy theory' .....even on Amazons own site!

They make their fortunes my manufacturing on the cheap in China and that's why they don't last as long as they might.GLCQuantum wrote:I think most electronic things nowadays have a built in life capacity. That's how those company's make their fortunes....:

eBay-Hong Kong
I have ordered several small electrical items from eBay Hong Kong and it takes some time to arrive by standard post but I've yet not to have received my orders.

My 3 year old Kindle 4 still works great. It's perfect for reading on the beach.
