Panniers for new Versys
Panniers for new Versys
I'm planning on purchasing a 2015 650 Versys and would like panniers. I don't need large capacity but I want the three pieces with the backrest. I want to take my wife on some easy day rides so i want her to be comfortable. The photo I attached seems ideal but I don't know if that set is available in Thailand.
What would you Versys owners recommend?
Thanks

Go to Club Moto, a few kms south of Khao Takiab: http://www.huahinmedia.com/clubmoto.php
They'll advise what is available in Thailand and can order them from Bangkok for you.

Re: Panniers for new Versys
I bought a set of Givi's for my Versy's three years ago here in Thailand ended up paying 150% more than what it would cost to import them. Your better off buying on line somewhere and getting them shipped to you here in Thailand, it's a lot cheaper than buying locally. If you do buy on line make sure you can arrange with who you buy them through that they label them as something other than motor bike accessories or you'll pay 35% duty on them. Or buy them on your return trip back to Thailand and hand carry them if you can, it'll be a big cost saving. Givi accessories are available in KL at standard western prices. I'm sure other's can help you out with other brand's. Canuck to Canuck

Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?
Re: Panniers for new Versys
Actually I plan on ordering the bike from Club Moto, what I am looking for is advice from Versys owners on a brand of panniers available in Thailand that fit well and have quality construction similar to the style of panniers on the attached photo. Once I have that information I will order them through Club Moto if possible. One of the reasons I'm choosing the Versys over the V-Strom is having the Kawasaki dealer in Hua Hin for servicing. Plus its a better looking bike.buksida wrote:Go to Club Moto, a few kms south of Khao Takiab: http://www.huahinmedia.com/clubmoto.php

Personally I wouldn't touch Givi again..... ever!

Just takes one bad experience though
Your plan will not be a cheap one, so mentally prepare yourself to consider the price of the bike c/w best pannier solution to your requirements. Why not purchase the bespoke Versys pannier system as this will be the best system for the bike however the price will probably be ~60K thb and that's just the side cases.
For my Ninja 1000 I have went to SW-Motech for the Rear Aluminium rack and then the 'Blaze' saddle pannier set for the sides. I also have a Hein Gericke tank magnetic/expandable tank bag but I'm not sure this will work for the Versys.
The SW-Motech products are ordered through Panda in Bangkok and don't seem to charge excessive duties. The guy Khun Siam is also very responsive with emails and it is a pleasure doing business with him which is certainly against the grain in Thailand. Deliver may take a couple months though as the merchandise is imported from Europe.
I think the Versys 1000 will be a fantastic motorcycle and if it has the same Kawasaki traction control system and A.B.S. brakes you WILL be impressed. Motoaholic in Bangkok now have a Versys 1K in store for a test-ride.
I know the owner of Club Moto if you need further info. from them.
So you'll be joining us for a Saturday ride?

I brought a set of Zega Pro Panniers from the US for a friend last year and he is "well pleased" with them.

Re: Panniers for new Versys
i thought the 2015 versys comes with all this stuff as a stock option.
i am going to be buying a versys in the next 45 days so i am very interested in your experience with this.
i was at club moto last week and they don't stock versys, you have to go to bangkok to see the new model and LOOK AT THE ACTUAL bike you will receive.
there is a car show in bangkok nov. 28-30? with many motorcycle companies there.
also their english at club moto is very limited... so you need to research what you need and be clear on required paper work before hand. they were very helpful as far as it could go.

James West, you're not from Gamrie per chance?
Quote from Motoaholic:
"I think 27-30 nov i will take the bikes and invite you guys for test tide in Hua Hin
28-29 also is Hua Hin Bike week , we have a booth there"
These dates are tentative so keep an eye out closer to the time. Bikes will be the Versys 1000, Ninja 1000 and possibly the Z800 & ZX-14 (has to be borrowed from Kawasaki).
The Versys 1000 does not come with any extras. No cases! They are ordered separately.

Re: Panniers for new Versys
i was taking about the new versys 650LT:
"The 2015 Versys 650 will be available in two models. There is the fully equipped ABS model, and then the new LT model, which has the same specification and will be supplied with standard KQR (Kawasaki Quick Release) 28-liter Hard Saddlebags and Hand Guards. This equipment will add even greater flexibility to an already accomplished motorcycle. The saddlebags, for example, will be invaluable for both daily commuting and to make it more practical for weekend escapes. Furthermore, the Kawasaki Quick Release system makes it very easy for the rider to remove and mount the bags in a matter of seconds.
The Hand Guards will further add to its appeal, bring welcome protection from the elements, increasing the long-distance comfort of the Kawasaki Versys 650 motorcycle."

ok roger that... not from Scotland lad... American but my grandfather was from Scotland.
I have yet to see a Versys in Hua Hin for sale. If they have a Versys 1000 at the show that would be nice to look at , but I want a new 2015 650, so I think i will go to Bangkok and then ride back down with it.

If you have to decided to get the bike then you can pay at Club Moto in Hua Hin (Koh Tao) and they will deliver to Hua Hin.JamesWest wrote:ok roger that... not from Scotland lad... American but my grandfather was from Scotland.

Motoholic are currently trying to re-categorise their Kui Buri shop so they can sell the Bigger Kawasakis. I have also been told there will be a Hua Hin big bike shop open... fingers crossed on that one.

Re: Panniers for new Versys
Looks like the 650LT will not be available in Thailand so ordering the panniers as an optional extra or going 3rd party will be the only option.
2015 price has been announced.
