Thanks for that info, they seem to have a mount for every occasion in their range.

Heck, I don't drive like that in the Jag, even with a V8 up front, but video looked pretty steady.

May have a look at their screen mounted system, as what I am trying to achieve is to have the video of the journey to only include the road ahead and not half the car interior.

Seems, most dash mounted cams include half of the dash in the video, so screen mounted maybe the only option.

My friend came back to me on vibration figures on headrest, mostly in the lower end of the frequency range, so he wants to get another type of meter to do some more tests, as the meter he has is mainly for High and Medium frequency measurements and he wants to get better data on the Low frequencies.

Thanks - If I had a V8 Jag on that hillclimb, I think I'd be off into the weeds - I'm dangerous enough in that car!

Waterproof without a case so then eliminate one of the sources of rattle and they ise the standard 1/4x20 camera threaded hole for mounting to make life easier. I much prefer them to GoPro

You also stated that you thought that you had turned off the microphone, but there are definitely voices on that sound track, so maybe it is not turning off?

This is true, I've heard the voices as well, yet it doesn't pick up on the music that is always playing in my car. I'll re-check the instruction manual.

I've been doing a bit of research myself, and I found something that said if I update to the latest version of software, it will eliminate the problem - well that was easier said than done

To update, I would have to buy a licence OMG, all that money (OK I bought it 'almost new' but still not cheap), and they want more money to 'maybe' make it work properly. Anyway, I managed to circumvent the need to pay, discovered a trick for unlocking a micro SD card (lock, unlock, lock 3 times, wait for 30 seconds ................. hey presto, unlocked ), and eventually my GoPro is working on the updated software.

All being well, I'll do a test run this afternoon (before drilling holes/stuffing with cotton wool) and post the results.

That Ion Adventure looks good for mounting on dashboard with the lens on the long axis.

It may be possible to get camera closer to windscreen, when dash or screen mounted and may well do away with capturing half of the dash in the video.

Well, I've done my test, and initial results are much improved. I did the test with the waterproof case. Yes there is the odd click, but nothing like before. I will do a bit of editing/uploading and post it later.

I became very dissatisfied with my GoPro which is less than 3 months old yesterday.

The casing, which is essential to successfully mounting the camera gave up and died yesterday. The little black locking clip disintegrated.

I am very angry at this - an essential moving part on a £250 boyz toy, rendered useless because of cheap & nasty workmanship. Had I been aware of this inadequacy, I would never have gone GoPro.

Hua Hin is the pits for buying spares. GoPro would send me a replacement for $59.99 + postage + customs etc. etc. I hate Bangkok - I wouldn't have a clue where to go, and it would probably cost an arm and a leg if I did. My boyz toy has now been rendered unusable until we get our next UK visitor. Sods law, we now have the longest gap ever now before our next visitor arrives at Christmas.

Not sure if Gadgetrend in Bangkok has them, but may be worth checking. Each time I try to open their website it hangs my laptop.

I am sure there are other suppliers in Bangkok, and most of those place will post things to you if you pay first by ATM transfer.

All may not be lost . Not an ideal solution, but aren't Thais clever with elastic bands? I wouldn't want to risk it underwater, but to continue using it during my learning process, I think this temporary solution might work. Will do a test run this afternoon.

I've completed both the 'temporary fix' and 'cotton wool' trials. Both trials went wrong for different reasons, and are not suitable to publish.

The fact I moved on to the cotton wool trial tells you the temporary fix trial went well - so well done to Mrs BB's skills with elastic bands.

The 'cotton wool' trial, while proving a success, is not something I will be moving forward with. IMHO the cotton wool forced in between the case and camera will eventually mis-shape the plastic casing, ultimately compromising the waterproof seal. Forcing cotton wool in as suggested does make it harder to seal the camera inside the case, again allowing water seepage.

I think the quality on the Wat Bo Fai video is sufficient i.e. improved output quality through software upgrade.

If you're trying to remove the sound, BB, it may be easiest just to delete the audio track in your editing software.

Yes, you're right, but it seems strange that there's a facility to turn the sound off that doesn't work though.

I've become sidetracked, firstly trying to remove the sound of static, and then following that up by trying to turn the sound off. In reality, now I've eliminated the static with the software update, the need to turn the sound off no longer exists.
