Spammers

Post by PeteB »

Along with others, I really detest these people.

This weekend we saw Phaeded get removed and two more tossers miniuk and Squid3660 have also appeared.

Any mileage in plugging IP address below username (or under signature) when posts are made?

That way, any interested parties can boycott various sites etc. once a spammer is identified.

Any thoughts?

 [rant]I am sure that I am not alone in wishing to rid the site of these scum..............[/rant]

Yes the spammers are annoying but more often that not they are automated bots that register accounts, not much can be done about them unfortunately.

The recent couple that actually went to the bother of posting something just to get a link back to their scammy website really are wastes of space. These people need a severe beating.

Banning IP's wont help as they very rarely use their own to peddle their shite.

Is the Thailand Thrillers thread spam? No link I can see, but weird that the guy seems to post under 2 different usernames (seasides & cyberholz) & he is promoting the books :?

Please can we refrain from replying to blatant spam posts, the forums are checked several times a day by admin and mods and these are all deleted along with any replies.

Replying only keeps the topic active and keeps the spammer happy, unfortunately we (and other forums) have had a huge influx of spammers lately, it seems that there are easy ways to get around the registration of boards automatically.

If there is pot holes in a road, you hassle the highways department, if the post does not arrive or yu get deluged with junk mails, you hassle the post office. What is need is more people to hassle the IPSs . In many countries in the world there are laws restricting the sending if unsolicited mail. This has been extended to FAX machihnes and should bnow be extended to email and forum access.

The ISPs are all attached at some time to the large communicatins companies who make vast billions of dollars per year in profits. Surely some of these profits can be ploughed back to fight against SPAM. With the right mechanisms put in place all of the senders can be tracked down even if they are using phone kiosks.

Enough noise was made from the victims something might be done. While we sit here moaning to each other nothing will be done.

Guess,

The UK, and others, are already trying with e-mail from marketing companies (who are members of the Direct marketing Assoc).

It works like the TPS http://www.dmaconsumers.org/emps.html

Unfortunately this doen't work with unregistered tossers, any more than the telephone service does with 'heavy breathers' .....(pant!.... pant!)

I agree that ISPs are the way to go and most have e-mail addresses for abuse of their service (esp e-mail and pornography). This is usually abuse@xxxxx.xxx

Perhaps a concerted deluge would begin to pay dividends.
