Web Site performance

Post by PeteB »

Just a quick question,

Has anyone noticed how slow this site runs at times?

Tonight it has been particularly bad, but performance seems to have suffered for a few weeks now. On a few occasions I have felt like giving up.

Has anyone else noticed? Has the ISP changed again or has a different loading been placed on the server or network connection?

Cheers

Peter

I've had the same problem tonight and have noticed it before. Sometimes I make or amend a post and then wait forever (bit of an exaggeration) for it to actually make it onto the board.

Seems to slow down on me between 7 and 10 most nights. I've always assumed it was peak traffic generally across the net.

I haven't noticed anything. In fact I'm alternating between this and the forum (in another window) that shall not be named and that is frequently so very slow that I often do give up!

HHAD is operating several times faster than the other one as I type!

I don't know if related but overall internet performance has been terrible these last few days here in Thailand. I sit here now at 0600 hours as it's about the only time I can get something close to good performance and it's still not too good. The Thai kids are on school break and I was thinking that in the day and evening they are all in internet shops and on-line, whereas during school days they are not. I think something also wrong with CAT and bandwidth as I am connected now at 50.6 kbs and I am not getting good results. :guns: Pete

Apart from a brief lack of IP service for about an hour two days ago my general IP service has been normal. As Big Boy says there a certain times of the day to avoid and I guess they are local issues. With me it is between 4:00PM and 10:PM Thai Time, which I have assume ties in with kids getting back from school and adults getting back from work. During holidays, like now the problem seems to lessen.

As for HHAD.is concerned, I could not acces it at all for one hour over the weekend and have noticed a few times a very slow respoonse. In fact about 30 minutes ago I had a long wait after refreshing the home page.

On one occasion I wrote a lengthty response which I had thought had been posted but when firing up the browser the next time it had disappeared into the ether.

Personally I haven't noticed it any slower than usual despite the crappy ISP's in Thailand. There have been no traffic peaks on the site lately either.

prcscct is spot on, there have been several disruptions to connectivity in the country recently but that shouldn't affect you guys overseas.

The HHAD server data center is in California so it may slow down during peak times there. It is on a shared host also so one of the other sites could be affecting its performance, I'll have a fiddle and see what's going on there.

Sounds like a quotation from Nero.

Figure this one out? I'm now connected at the blazing speed of 24.6kbs and web pages are coming up faster and more in rythmn than this morning when connected at 50.6kbs. In rythmn means no fits and starts and no delays looking at half a web page for 2 minutes before it all opens. Boggles the mind, is it really 2006 here or 1996? Pete :guns:

Off topic, I know, but don't ever forget the reliability of the computers in this town re your foreign ATM card.
Seems like they can't connect with your home country, fairly often.
I'm informed from the UK, that the problem is just "connectivity" in this wonderful town, but it certainly dosn't make it any easier to get money when you need it.
ARRRRRGH. Slow speeds to HHAD from wherever? You have no idea.

FYI again, I'm at 16.8kps now at 10 PM. Pages still coming up well and faster than at 50.6. No, I am not insane, it's true. I have a feeling that if your machine says you are connected at XX initially, it may change internally at the ISP end and you actually get more as their situation improves. I am determined to understand this! UGGGH. Pete

Don’t bother trying Pete, I’ve spent months looking at the log on speed, it’s all crap. Two days ago I couldn’t log on to anything, CSLoxinfo, gave me two alternative numbers to try, the first one I tried logged me on, using firefox, faster then any previous usage. Who knows, I certainly don’t understand it.

But complain to your provider, thay may be able to give you advice, as mine did.

To finish this one off, the world seems to have returned to normal today. Average 45-50.6kbs on dial-up, and pages coming up as they should from everywhere. I think the gods just play with us mortals sometimes. :? Pete
