^ Congrats on the yellow cap Pete - a heck of a GP, full of incident and some great performances. As you mention, stand out races for Botas and Alonso, but also from Button coming in at 4th, but pushing very, very hard for a podium finish. Also, the personal battle between Alonso and Vettle was quite something - how the hell they didn't put each off the track in the closing stages was a miracle.......

As some articles are saying this morning....I wonder how many thousands turned off their TV sets or change the channel because of the hour delay to repair that fence. I think the race could have proceeded well and safely without any repair at all.

^ The joke was, I got my timings totally @rse about t*t and turned on an hour late!!

Worked out well though!!

I wouldn't have thought the delay would have lost any watching F1 fans, but probably not pleased many - especially those several hours in front in various international time zones.

It appeared to me that the Alcan(if that is what the barrier was), caused a much more serious accident. Kimi Raikkonen`s car came back out on to the track like it had been fired out of a cannon! If the "barrier" had absorbed the forces of the car it probably would have just been the one car out of the race, in place of what did happen. I think they need to take a closer look at just what the barrier material contributed to the accident.

If you use the official formula 1 site to check the race times, it actually gives you a 'convert to my local time' option, so you can let somebody else do the work for you :)

Two things confused me about this race, both pertaining to the restart....

Firstly, I've been watching F1 since 1994 and I have NEVER seen drivers line up in the order they were when stopping the race after a first lap incident.

The rules state that if the race is red flagged within the first two laps, then the current order will be discounted and the race will be restarted with drivers lining up in their original qualifying order. If it's more than two laps, then the drivers line up in the order they were in when they crossed the finish line on the lap before the incident started.

There is no precedent for what happened on Sunday, as far as I can recall.

Secondly, the safety car... what was it's purpose. There were no adverse weather conditions, the track condition didn't need checking... so why start under a safety car? Even if there was a valid option to start under the safety car (and I'm not convinced there was...) then, considering the mess the FIA have made over next year's safety car regulations, you'd think they'd want to get people used to standing restarts; there's going to be a lot more of them next year.

Standing restarts after the safety car

where has my sport gone :(

They just can't help themselves, can they? They're now considering banning the suspension systems used in the current cars [which have been in use since 2013] from the next race. In doing so, they would be forcing teams to run untested suspension system replacements which has insane safety implications.

Rosberg signs new 3-year Mercedes F1 deal

https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport ... s-f1-deal/

World championship leader Nico Rosberg has signed a long-term deal with Mercedes, the German Formula One team confirmed on Wednesday.

Rosberg, who joined Mercedes in 2010, signed a "multi-year contract extension" on Monday, according to the team.

Earlier on Wednesday, Germany's Bild newspaper reported the deal to be worth 55 million euros ($A82.5 million) until 2017.

"I am very proud to drive the Formula One Silver Arrow of the modern era," the 29-year-old Rosberg said in a statement.

"We have an awesome team and I am confident that we have the right people in place at every level. I'm looking forward to the next years together, when we will keep pushing to win even more races - and hopefully championships," he added.

Rosberg has six race victories with Mercedes and, although yet to win a world title, he leads this season's championship standings by four points from British teammate Lewis Hamilton ahead of Sunday's German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

"With his performances in 2014, Nico has demonstrated to the outside world what we knew already in the team: that he is one of the very top drivers in Formula One," Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said.

"This new contract brings us important stability and continuity for the future and I am delighted to be able to make the announcement in time for the home race of Mercedes-Benz and Nico in Hockenheim."

Nico Rosberg: World Cup helmet changed after Fifa objection

German Formula One driver Nico Rosberg has been forced to change the design of a helmet he planned to wear to celebrate his country's World Cup win.
Football's world governing body Fifa said an image of the trophy would breach "intellectual property" rights.

The 29-year-old championship leader hoped to wear the helmet for his home Grand Prix at Hockenheim this weekend.
"I would have loved to carry the trophy as a tribute to the guys, but I respect the legal situation," he said.
Rosberg has opted to keep other emblems on his helmet, such as the national flag and four stars to represent four World Cup wins.
In a statement, Fifa said it was "obliged to take action against any unauthorised reproduction of its intellectual property in a commercial context".
It added: "We cannot allow a commercially branded helmet to feature the trophy as this would jeopardise the rights of our commercial affiliates.
"We appreciate Nico Rosberg's desire to congratulate the German team and have therefore been in discussions with the Rosberg team to attempt to find a solution, whereby he is still able to show his support for Germany without using Fifa intellectual property in a commercial context."
Germany won the 2014 Fifa World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra-time on Sunday. The old West Germany won the World Cup three times - in 1954, 1974 and 1990.
Rosberg, who leads his British team-mate Lewis Hamilton by four points, had proudly shown off the new helmet design on Tuesday.
"This will be my Hockenheim World Cup special edition helmet with the Fifa trophy," he tweeted.
