Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
I am missing a good, english Sunday Roast (from living 12 years in Surrey, UK) in my current country of residence, but in another thread there are suggestions to where I can get one in Hua Hin, so the place can't be that much in lacking things western
One Day I'm gona die. I can live with that.

Let's see.......
Biltong ( thankfully I can and do make my own)
Droewors
Bobotie
Realistically priced samosas
Decent pies (at local prices)
Sausage rolls served with baked beans
Mutton chops
Decent brandy at a reasonable price
Fresh scones with clotted cream

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

There is a chain in Bangkok call Wine Connection that have a similar model to the one you suggest. The food is consistently good and wine pretty cheap considering the prices over here. Cracking value for money, we alway wonder how they manage to do it at such low prices.seasides wrote:Could a Deli with local, reasonably priced quality products, such as cheese, special bread etc., and nicely priced imports of Mediterranean kitchen grab your attention?
Along with a reasonably priced wine?
You may want to get in before they open up here in HH.

Vietnamese and a good lamb shawarma is missed.
Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
^ I'll second that lamb shawarma! In four years living in the middle east that was my favorite fast food!
I haven't tried it but there is a new(ish) Vietnamese place on the road connecting Soi 88 to Soi 94 (the road to the south from 88 just before getting to the Hin Lek Fire road on the other side). I did call them and I think it is a lady from Viet Nam probably serving at her home. The red sign for it points down a long narrow drive and she said you have to park on the road and walk down. The sign has photos of some authentic Vietnamese food and if the photos are of her food they look good.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

They do take away as well if you don't want to go to the restaurant. The food is ok.hhfarang wrote:^ I'll second that lamb shawarma! In four years living in the middle east that was my favorite fast food!

I was missing Prawn Cocktail crisps - but now Villa Market stock them
I was missing Doner Kebabs - but now they have them in Soi 80
all I need is for Subway to introduce BBQ sauce, and perhaps McDonalds to do the McBacon sandwich and I'll be set

Well I'm going back to the UK in June for a long overdue trip and top of the list are REAL kippers and some decent smoked Haddock

Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
While I agree with some of the items - lamb, crumpets and cheese in particular - what I miss more are the prices. A bottle of quiet decent wine from a German supermarket can be less than the price per glass of something quite dire in Hua Hin. Likewise, cheese in huge lumps for not very much money, compared with the gastronomic varieties available here, which only make the grade because they can justify the price (to a greater degree).
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....
Re: What food you miss in Hua Hin?
^ I agree, I've just returned from the U.S. and while I was shocked to see the near 100% rise in restaurant food costs in the last 10 years, I was happy to find the foods I've been missing here (because of absence or due to cost) were very cheap (by comparision) in California super markets.
I ate cheese and fresh ripe blueberries, blackberries, rasberrys, sweet large (not small and sour like here) strawberries, and whole ripe avacodos every day of my trip.
I drank very good bottles of wine for 6 to 10 dollars each (or about 190 to 320 baht) and a few great bottles for 15 to 20 dollars each (or about 480 to 640 baht).
I also ate my weight in Jack Links brand beef jerkey (the last bag on the plane ride back)!.
I also visited several bistros specializing in craft or small brewery beers, a couple with over 100 choices on tap!
Sure wish I could afford to live there! I spent nearly a half year's pension on a three week trip. Guess that's it for me for another 10 years!
