Fact: The flying ants were not imagined they were landing on the table, in or drinks, in my wifes hair etc,. I got up to go to the 7-11 for some spray but the lady stopped me and brought out some spray and switched a fan on. It helped.
Yes, we can get a bit defensive about our favourite places, can't we? Having said that, I think BB said he was there during the afternoon, so he was hardly likely to be bothered by any flying ants. Either that or they were just lucky. I hate the bloody things myself, and I would probably have given up and gone home for a sandwich...

When I mentioned the Thailand/UK comparison, I meant to add that when you've been living here permanently for ten years or so, there is no point in comparing anything here to anything anywhere else on a like-for-like basis. There are simply no common points of reference.
At least in this place you don't have to put up with the crap music and standardised decor!

...looks like it's S&S for our Indian meals now then.
This is bizarre, as it's difficult to imagine why they would deliberately ignore a customer. It's amazing what people will put up with - after 3 minutes, I'd have been making it obvious I was dying of thirst - jumping up and down on the table waving my arms, writhing on the ground with my hands to my throat, or something similarly quiet and understated. But switching to S&S is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Having said that, it can be counter-productive to boost these places to the point where they get too popular.
One of the problems with these low-end places in HH is that they can build up a great reputation and then over-extend, perhaps by getting the wrong or not enough staff, perhaps losing a chef, perhaps putting their prices up, etc.

I hope that doesn't happen here.

The problem with this place at the moment is the Indian girl that normally takes the orders is on holiday in India we went there a couple of weeks back and there where four thai staff working as waiters none of them spoke English two of them where in there teens or early twenties very beautiful but more worried about there mobile phones, I said straight away that this is go to be a disaster and it was didn't get what we ordered, the place was busy and every one was getting every one else's order and they couldn't even add up the bill properly.

Also went back New Year's Day at 6-30 only one staff waiting on tables English not good can only take orders by number same as before, they don't have chicken tikka masala on the menu(that's way we didn't get it before I think) I asked the chef where it was on the menu and he told me it's not but I can make it for you, didn't have to wait long but as said before the food now is being pre cooked and not from scratch, normally when the Indian girls there she comes and asks if every things OK and it usually is.

I think now that they have been open for six months or more they know the amount of customers they will be coming through the door as to speak so pre cook the food to make things simple while the Indian girl is on holiday, the chef is still the same one and she is his sister.

Have any of you's noticed the older lady there who wears the money bag!!! She's on the web site for the Indian clinic and restaurant up soi 88 the food there is good might give that another go first time and only we went there they wouldn't bring bottles of beer to the table they would take the glass away to refill and charge by the glass if you had ice in it two sips and it was gone.

Smor spa is also good and a beautiful setting but limited menu if they was to extend it I think it would be the best Indian restaurant in town, tried the one on the main road called spice food was pre cooked and warmed up and expensive they are owned by the one near the hilton maharaja is it the women owner asked me to come back and try it again but I don't think so (once bittern twice shy)

I think you meant that the Nepalese girl that normally takes the orders is on holiday in Nepal? She's a great server, but she told me that she and the staff (family?) are from Nepal, not India.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Was it a take away or delivered?

Got to say I was also in there on New Year's Day before venturing to watch the footy.

The chicken in my dish was 100% pre-cooked, the sauce that surrounded seemed fresh, it was very nice to be fair. The pre-cooked chicken was hard and dry. Usually the chicken (and lamb for that matter) at this place is well cooked.

Still torn between this place and S&S, but I think for my taste S&S is the better of the two.

We are lucky to have 2 very good Indian restaurants here, both serving good food at very cheap prices. The Indian places in bangkok are no better but you are paying upwards of 300 bht for a main course dish, factor in a couple of popadom's, breads and beers it work out pretty steep.

Stumbled across a 'new' Indian Restaurant this week. It's called the Royal Restaurant and is on the left hand side of the road to the beach near the Sofitel - before you get to Billy's Bar.

Food was very good and the menu is large and varied. Well worth a trip in my opinion.

The owner said they had been open for a couple of months.

We tried this restaurant but thought that S&S was a better taste. Maybe just us, but...

I like S and S too. I suppose that the good news is that there now seems to be a choice of good Indian Restaurants in Hua Hin to go with some of the not so good!

Great for all of us who enjoy indian food.

I am writing this in response to my earlier negative views on the Soi 80 Indian R/rant.
Myself & 3 others decided to go there last night..yes they were busy, the waitress came straight over & appologised for any delay due to her being the only staff waiting on the tables..nice touch..won us over from the start.
We took note of this lady working & she deserved a round of applause..poor lady never stopped.
When our food came it was all wonderful..the Rogan josh was excellent as ever.
Alas one customer (who we think was full of Soi 80 beer) got fed up of waiting & decided to pass some rude comments to this poor lady..she in turn told the lady cooking, & for 30seconds that lady came & ripped into this man with fury..we nearly clapped her when she retired back to the kitchen.. :thumb:
We all left 'comfortably stuffed' & between us we were more than satisfied...

....thanks to all at this r/rant..'we'll be back'..

Agree with you totally useful suspect . Thought the food was excellent and luckily did not have to wait that long . Only very small negative were the poppodums . Will definitely be going back

Sanjyi Indian Soi 80 railway end

Post by Gin tonic - no lime »

My go to indian place (Sanjyi) .... love the food and it was very reasonably priced. I see my "regular" meal is up about 18% from last week. Still not expensive but now not particularly cheap. Once every 2 weeks now rather than every week. :-(

Wow 18% in a week! Any reason why given? Just curious. When I raise prices I get questions all the time!!
