New Bangkok Airport Transfer time.

Post by flyboy »

The new airport is scheduled to open on Sep 28. Do any of the HH expats have any idea if this will affect the transfer time to HH by taxi?

Should be even quicker as the New Airport is a spur road to the Motorway.

PJG thats good news.
Maybe there will be mini buses available from the airport to Hua Hin similar to those running to and from Victory Monument.
I'm sure we will eventually find out all these details when the time comes.

I will resist the sarcastic comments. The journey is much greater from the new airport to Victory Monument than the old one was. However the spur road has not been built yet. Addirionally there is a rumour that ther will be mininus services to all the major destinations within reach. The only three I can think of are Kanchanaburi, Pattaya, Cha Am and Hua Hin (perhaps Trat or Chumphon for the islands).

If one of the new southern Chao Phraya bridges gets opened in time it could reduce the road journey to Hua Hin to two hours.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting though.

There was a letter in the Post the other day from an expat complaining that the new airport will have no taxis on site. Everone will have to load into a shuttle and be driven about 3 KM to the taxi parking area. Don't know if this will apply to mini busses as well. Bad idea all the way around. Pete

We're off to the UK on Sept 8th, returning Oct 6th, so I suppose it'll be into the new airport. Not looking forward to it. I might just get disorientated and end up in Pattaya instead

I hope you're back in time for the boat trip, but if should happen to be on the 7th, just come to Pattaya and take the boat back to HH on the 8th. :thumb: Lobby Khun Guess strongly please to get aboard also. I'm not liking what I'm seeing so far concerning responses. :( Pete

new airport

I guess you have as much chance of getting a minibus service from the airport to Hua Hin as flying to the moon. How many taxi drivers earn their living from airport runs!

Yeah. Everything I've read so far says that it's limos only from the airport - maybe meter taxis - but other transport is a free shuttle bus away.
Do you all remember the stink regarding Thaksin's wife, whose company was bidding for the parking and taxi concessions last year?
Pete, after we get back from Blighty, I'm gonna be walking everywhere for a while and living off rice and chillies. No wonder I don't go back much!!

Here's Some Details Regarding The New Airport,

Quote'

Suvarnabhumi Airport is located on a 3,100 ha site in the Samut Prakarn province of Thailand at Nong Ngu Hao (Nongnughao translated as Cobra Swamp), 30km east of Bangkok. Road access to the new airport will be provided by a series of new highways connected to Bangkok's existing outer ring road. The main access road is an elevated 2 x 5 lane road that leads from the passenger terminal through the northern part of the site to the new Bangkok–Chonburi highway.

The construction of the City Airport Terminal in Makkasan and a 28.6 km high-speed rail link to the new airport started in July 2005 and are planned for completion in November 2007. The airport express, informally known as the Pink Line and operated jointly with SRT's planned Red Line commuter service, will connect with the BTS Sukhumvit Line and MRT Blue Line at Phaya Thai and Phetchaburi stations respectively, offering airport-bound passengers a fast 15-minute limited stop journey from the city....

Looking at a map from another website, most of the access is from already overcrowded roads.

The Bangkok-Chonburi highway (7) is usually packed by 7 am; once the trucks are allowed into Bangkok after 10 am it gets even worse.

Access from Onnut Road (aka Sukhumvit 77) also has to cater for the surrounding industrial area, and the construction work under way just now at the Wat Kingkaew junction causes total mayhem.

Here is a link to the map:
http://www.bangkoksite.com/NewAirport/Suvarnabhumi.htm

It does not show access from the Bangna-Trad highway (34) but that's another really busy road...

Now all the traffic from Don Muang gets diverted over here to add to the chaos... Yippee!! :guns:

Also, here is the layout..

There's a Q&A website that includes an aerial photo of the terminal, but beware! It's a 3 Mb download pdf file.
