Casual Restaurants North Hua Hin - South Chaam area

Post by Bobbie »

Does anyone know of any casual restaurants in the areas between around Soi 23 to a few kilometers towards Chaam? (Not in the town of Chaam).

The Bamboo Restaurant near the HH Airport is one kilometer from me, but is never open. Is this just for the season or is it not in business any more?

Would especially like to find a Thai Seafood Restaurant with good, fresh seafood.

Thanks,

Bobbie

Bobbie..how about venturing towards the area around the 'coastal hotels' North of the airport, but before the army camp..it's awhile since I was in that 'Micro-resort' area, but may have what you're looking for..?
(Last time I cycled thru' there I saw tailor-shops & restaurants)..Please let us know if you find somewhere worthy..??

We went to Platoo Restaurant in Chaam area Sunday for lunch. Turn off Petchkasem between 7-11 and Tesco Lotus Express. Lots of people there. We were the only farangs I think. 1 busload of Thais. Food was very good, excellent service and inexpensive. We had King Prawn w/Garlic, a pork w/green curry dish, pork w/noodles, bean sprouts, peanuts, pork fried rice and a Large Leo, all for 445 baht. Will definitely go back. (Sorry I forget the Thai names).

Cannot remember the name but there is a very nice sea food place on the beach right opposite
Palm Hills.

Great food, may not be the cheapest but top service and quality.

Difficult to give exact directions but there is a great restaurant on Petchkasem road heading towards Cha Am which only has a Thai name สเต๊กเฮ้าส์ which translates to Steakhouse and they do a number of different steaks (local and imported) as well as all the normal Thai dishes. The restaurant is two storey and is on the left hand side about 4-500 metres past the Rama VI army base on the right, and almost 3 kms before you get to Thai Watsadu. Good food at very reasonable prices, operated by Mr Nu and his wife Nong who are both very hospitable.

The seafood place opposite Palm Hills is called Chom Talay, it's right next to The Boat House. A bit further up on Petchkasem in the VIP condo complex just before the security gate on the right there is a little cafe called Lilawadee, very good food (Thai and western) and reasonable price. Past Palm Hills on the Klong Road going north, pass the new Finnish housing complex on the left, turn right at the bridge, there is a thai place on the right and a pizza place called Thaitalia on the left, both are good. next to the pizza place is a new one called Bangkok Cafe....if you turn left at the bridge, go over the klong follow the road a bit past the Tropical Garden, you will see signs for Moo's bistro (or somebody's bistro)............

Last night I visited Chom Talay with some friends. Very impressed. Beautiful setting and very good food. Service was excellent. I thoroughly recommend trying this restaurant. There was 8 of us, plenty of food and a fair amount of drink, the bill came to 4400 baht which I think was reasonable for the amount. I will be going back soon.

A nice Thai restaurant near the airport right at the police station. Careful spicy food

[Mod Edit] The same establishment does not need multiple recommendations.

Dear Editor. I don't know how to contact you else. So I will do it this way. If one topic is called "Casual Restaurants in North Hua Hin"and the other one is called "Good Restaurants near Hua Hin Hospital" Which are clearly the same topics from 2 different people. Why can't I give them the same recommendations. Maybe the creator of this topic posted this topic without knowing that it is answered somewhere else. Maybe he would appriciate it if someone would post it 3 or 4 times. At least he is getting the information he wants.

Thank you very much for your time.

Since I am not allowed to recommend a restaurant twice. Dear friends in this Topic please look up my post on the topic "Good Restaurants near Hua Hin Hospital"

Bamboo Restaurant just south of HH Airport has remodeled and sign says will be open Friday. We are anxious to try it.

I retract my previous recommendation of Moon Platoo. On next visit at night everything was a nightmare. We will never go back. Got whole fish, was not fresh, dried up, barely any 'meat' on it. 450 baht. Ordered several other dishes, all were very small, old & nasty, left most of food there and was overcharged on "every" dish. There were 3 of us, we got to no plates or forks. The service was horrid for everything. It took at least 20-30 minutes to get bill. When I saw prices of everything was overcharged from menu prices, after the long wait for bill and nasty food and nil service, we just wanted out of there. I left 1000 baht...bill was 970 baht...so with all the overcharges and the the 30 baht left from 1000 baht total, we ended up leaving at least a $9.00 U.S. $ 'tip'. Not worth trying to correct knowing we would have no success and it would take another 30-40 minutes or more knowing they would no nothing or 'no understand'. We had taken a guest that night and the whole experience was frustrating and embarrassing to us to have taken a guest that night tho he has lived in Thailand 5 years. We have lived in Thailand almost 4 years, but this is the worst we have ever been 'farang' overpriced, and served such inedible food and had such a bad experience.

This seems to be so out of character from my experiences there, both food wise and prices - albeit these days I don't go that often (last time was just over 2 weeks ago). Interesting to hear if anybody else has experienced similar treatment?
