I couldn't find anything about this specific car but found a very interesting clip about the Maharajas car collection
There is a video clip on the link I posted above. Is it the same one? Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

No, nothing to do with movies---although she probably regarded herself as a star!

1962.
The modifications may refer to the fact that it is right hand drive, but are not connected to the who.

Bingo! I have read a couple of references about it, and now I cannot find them!

That really wasn't easy to find at all and the question arises "How did you know that in the first place?"
Was it something you knew or something you stumbled on to ?

This link http://www.eternalmewar.in/museums/vint ... illac.aspx suggests it was 1963 and also that the Queen had travelled in the same car in 1960 and the Shah of Iran in 1968.

This image http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jacqu ... h_1962.jpg from Wikipedia says March 1962.

This Pathe newsreel is dated March 1962 and shows Kennedy in an open top car (near the end) but I don't think it's the same car. http://www.britishpathe.com/video/mrs-k ... ie+kennedy

Here's the Queen on her tour of India and Pakistan but no shot of the car.

Why I asked about the movie connection was because one of the Maharaja's cars was used in Octopussy and The Jewel in the Crown but it was a Rolls Royce as detailed here http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_18113-Roll ... -1934.html

I need to go and lie down now.

Vintage Collection of Classic Cars of Udaipur in Rajasthan, India

About 2 km away from the City Palace complex is the Vintage and Classic Car Collection. There are about two dozen vehicles on display in the garages. The collection within the grounds of the Garden Hotel comprises a variety of classic and interestingly rare transportation vehicles; some stately and vintage like Cadalec, Chevalate, Morais etc., while the others are sleek and fast. The clear frontrunner is a 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom II. There is also a 1939 Cadillac convertible, which transported Jackie Kennedy during her visit to Udaipur. The Maharanas of Udaipur once possessed and used these regal splendours of automobiles as their luxuries but most of the other models are gradually being added to the collection, since it provides a unique aristocratic safari for the exclusive guests. Here too the entry fee includes a free beverage, but the price still seems pretty steep.

The only date that I have noticed a discrepancy with is the model year of the car. In one place it says 1939, in another 1938.

edit: correct date

Here we have a car of the 70s. The bodywork has been dramatically changed by a very well known designer of the period. The raised air intake in the bonnet was a later addition, by the same designer, but he did not like it as it spoilt the lines

Some may like the styling and some will hate it

1. Country of origin?
2. What is the name of the car?
3. Who was the designer?
4. Which car was used as the basis of the design?

I haven't got a clue what that is but it reminds me of the 1970's Jensen-Healey that a friend of mine used to have back in the eighties.

Incidentally, I presume the designer only had a ruler and a blunt pencil!

This is my assumption also ...horrible....But quite typical of the period and indeed for the Jenson Healy
