If you wish to do a search on this froum you will find all you need to know. Having written that, I don't know how to 'do a search' so will let you have my own report.

I stayed at City Beach Resort last weekend with a large group of athletes from Bangkok. I received no specific complaints.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The lobby is rather impressive. The buffet breakfast was almost as good as any buffet breakfast I have had (not that I am a great fan of buffet breakfasts), and my room was clean quiet and comfortable.

It is not Claridges. It only claims three stars and a strict inspection would not rate it at below 2.5 stars.

Whether it is 'guest friendly' (a delightful euphemism) I cannot say, but would reckon that it is.

If you do decide to stay there make sure that the 'crown jewels' are well protected when you turn on the shower. The water pressure is rather high.

The reason I put it up here is I have found some poor reviews elsewhere!

I will be staying at the City Beach for Xmas, but I'm not going to Hua hin for the hotel. Stayed there about 2 years ago with my Thai wife and kids, not the best hotel but did the job.

i stayed there june 2006, i wasnt really impressed, if it was 1000 baht i would say its ok, but at 2000 + baht not really good, the rooms are big but i stayed in the mid range room, i stayed there 3 nights and then moved to the thipuri just 50yds up the soy, at 1200 baht it was excellent, clean and very friendly staff and girl friendly, food ok and good eating place next door....

we stayed there the back end of last year and the thing that put me off the most was the maids washing the pigeon shit of the balconies into the pool when i was swimming in it!!.
I found the place a bit grubby and shabby but at the time it was the only place with rooms available , now i know why.

Not to put people off but they do have rats ion their kitchens, a chef informed me of this and that put me off for good.

Simon,

I've found if you check any Restaurants in Thailand carefully enough, you can usually identify the rat's bolt hold. If you look long enough, you'll usually spot the snout and whiskers.

Much more fun than people watching. If you're really lucky, you'll see one chance its luck to grab a bit of food that somebody's dropped on the floor.

I appreciate that I am too much of a westerner here, a little naive maybe too. I am sure it goes off in most places.
Many thanks

The hotel is very tired and there are better choices in the immediate vicinity at a lower price

Great central location, but overpriced and rundown.

For a quarter of the price you can get a new clean room nearby.

well during my years @ Stamford University I spent my early years Partying me Nights away @ the Star Planet Discoteque right @ the City Beach resort. and a few of my infamous friends who wants to stay anonymos had a couple of Girls with him to and had some wild Nights with them.
In my Opinion I think the whole place need an All Out Overhaul. Each and every room should be painted repaired and new Furniture needed fro there rooms. The best Time to do it Gradually is During the low Season. while Visitor Numbers are low in relative terms. Hiltons done in record time why could Citty Beach not do it!
In Love with Hua Hin since 19naughty9 and it ain't fading!!!
