Indian food in Hua Hin
Re: Indian food in Hua Hin
Have any of you been to India, let alone Bengal and tasted the curries?
Just wondering, because I have.

Anyway, the history of Indian curries in the the UK ,as said, is pretty much spot on.
Many Indians, if political against the Raj and especially from Bengal (West and East in those days) were simply exiled.
They were sent to the UK so an eye could be kept on them.
That's how the UK curries started.

Or sent to England for education (Nehru and many others). Not to mention masses of military, business and government workers bringing new tastes home when they returned to the UK.

Sorry a little off topic
I have also eaten curry all over India on many business visits but was surprised, when I visited Japan, many years ago, that the Japanese also love curry, especially served with noodles.
Strangely, the British introduced curry to Japan in the nineteenth century, at a time when India was under their administration.
At that time, the British Navy cooked stew with curry powder, and the Japanese Navy not only learnt about naval systems but they also learnt the recipe for curry. It has been adapted since its introduction to Japan, and is so widely consumed that it can be called a national dish and is usually eaten on Fridays, as this was the traditional navy day to eat curry.

Lomu, I think you'll find that just as many of us have wound up in HH eventually, many of us have done our time in the Indian subcontinent en route! My sentence (actually I had a great time) was 2 years in Pakistan in the 80s, including several visits to India, Bangladesh and <sigh> Sri Lanka.
Some of the best food I had was from Afghan stalls and restaurants in Islamabad and Peshawar, and let's not forget that there is a vast range of food from the region that has nothing to do with 'curry' at all.

Your experience almost mirrors mine d-m other than the time, but I spent a few years in Pakistan as well as numerous trips to India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (they like their curries hot there). One of my fondest memories was attending the cricket World Cup final in Lahore (in 1997 I think) and had the most fantastic nann breads from a roadside stall just outside the stadium.dtaai-maai wrote:Lomu, I think you'll find that just as many of us have wound up in HH eventually, many of us have done our time in the Indian subcontinent en route!
